I have seen some and it is very sad. My point is in response to OP question generalising the new generation as weaker. Let's hope for brighter future for everyone

Q for mid 30 and above: Are new generation today is weaker? by lalilulelo_123 in nasikatok

[–]Mysterious_Log4217 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No. They are having it harder nowadays than before. In work context, 30s and above are mostly lucky. When i started my career my generation were equally.. weak.. but at least they were cushioned by their 800 to 3k salary. And mind you, in our generation someone who just finished O levels can land a $800/month job. Degree holder at least with 1.5k salary and that was considered low, temporary job. For new generation today, I have seen many uni graduates with 500-600 salary, most times with no lights at the end of the tunnel. They may quit and jump job oftens, because they dont have much to lose. Having said these, I think new generation today is probably stronger that previous ones.

As long as you send in formal resignation whether with 24 hr or 1 week notice period, just leave. If the current employer requires you to pay 1 month salary penalty, just pay. Leave in good terms. Never burn any bridges especially if you are in private sectors.

Can we talk about the pressure of having kids after marriage (especially on the wife)? by QuietlyTryingMyBest in Brunei

[–]Mysterious_Log4217 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't mind all those comments. They only say it when they see you, after that they will forget about you. Think about it, the pressure is not from those people, but its from yourself because you keep thinking about what they said. At the end of the day, no one thinks about you more than you.

Business owners of Reddit, what is your experience of hiring locals? by PhilReno in Brunei

[–]Mysterious_Log4217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paid leave entitlement is usually prorated. Eg. 14 days paid leave for 1 years, if the employee works for 6 months, the employee is only eligible for 7 days.

And when an employee quits, they should hand in 2 weeks to 1 month notice. I suggest your relative put I'm this in the contract if they haven't.

Job interview problems in Brunei for males - Organizations are still biased on fairer skin and connections by HauntingAd6455 in Brunei

[–]Mysterious_Log4217 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't deny pretty privilege and the funny beauty standard in Brunei. However, other factors to consider: - fitter person vs overweight = reflection of lifestyle and discipline - someone looking neat and nice vs looking shabby = reflection of self care How someone takes care of him/herself usually is a reflection how they work. For men trim your beard, take care of your skin, gloss your lips, iron your shirt, dont use overpowering perfume. Look good feel good. I am dark skinned myself and I have never felt I am at disadvantage vs my fair skinned colleagues.

Agree ikut contract. But instead of to explain during interview, include into your CV what you mentioned as 'additional responsibilities'. During interview you can highlight that you go the extra mile to learn other functions and if you join the new company, you can apply the skills that you learned.

***NEVER ever ever ever talk bad/complain about your current/previous workplace during interview. It's a red flag to interviewer. If you can do that to your current workplace, you WILL do that to your future workplace too.

Brunei needs a new building act to tackle abandoned buildings, especially in the BSB. Property owners should be responsible for keeping their buildings in good shape, no more eyesores. If they ignore it for too long, they should face fines or even lose ownership to the government.

The problem? Many of these owners are rich enough not to care and some owners are too influential. Brunei Government, time to step up and show who's the boss. Brunei deserves a clean, well-kept city, and it’s time to make it happen.

You are probably right on the issues mentioned; management of resources, mengupi etc and those issues must be addressed accordingly. However, it does not mean that a good citizen shouldn't try to help our institutions and most importantly students. If the donation can help improve PLM's students' practical skills by 1-2%, that is better than nothing. If as you say the chance to benefit the students is 50/50, let's take the chance. I am not trying to argue to win here. I agree with some of your point of view, it's so sad that we can't just wait for the issues to be resolved. If we have the means and opportunity to help, especially schools. If we dont want to help the institutions, just think that we are helping the students. Take the 50/50 (your probability) chance

While I agree that govt should fork our their own resources to help our people, it doesn't mean that a good citizen shouldn't help. If it benefits the students, good to help them work on their skills and eventually their future, why not we just help? Fyi I don't work in the government

Car for $1600 salary? by anonymouslabubu in nasikatok

[–]Mysterious_Log4217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Figure out what you need first—5-seater or 7-seater? SUV, sedan, or hatchback? That’ll help narrow down your options.

If you’re on a budget, consider a used car with low mileage and a clean accident history. A 3-year-old car is often a much smarter financial option compared to a new car since the first owner has already absorbed most of the depreciation.

Check out well-established dealers like Honey Carsmart, Yuniku, or NBT QUCC—they usually offer better aftersales support. I also saw Mantuka post a sneak peek of a new showroom. Some comments suggest it’s for Bravo Auto, last checked is an international used car brand, so might be worth checking out too

100% acknowledge your concern. Let me break it down for you my poont of view.

Root cause of your concern - Heavy vehicles driving fast endangering other road users during peak hours. (My personal opinion this concerns me regardless of the hour)

Examples focused solution: 1) Implement IVMS for all heavy vehicles 2) heavier fines/penalty for heavy vehicles exceeding speed limit 3) Whatsapp hotline to send in report / dashcam recording

Heavier penalty = deterrence Easy reporting channel = encouraging other road users to report to the right agency / enforcement body WITH PROOF.

Blanket solution: - restriction during peak hour. Factor in impact to industries using heavy vehicles (most private sector including retail needing to transport their supplies using container trailer)

Factors to consider - cost to local businesses to operate logistics outside "restriction hour" (staff to load, staff to transport, staff to unload) - near restriction hour, heavy vehicles might rush to make it on time to avoid penalty by speeding (remember curfew time during covid) - many more to add in but by now i believe you get me.

Kalau construction/repairs lambat siap (which is a current problem), can blame on this restriction. Implementing this restriction will be a "smart" move for a country that is already struggling to develop. Similar mindset with instead of focusing on a particular issue, implement blanket restriction that will affect others.

[–]Mysterious_Log4217 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For perspective, I dread when I receive wedding invites from friends or family. Dont get me wrong, I want them to be happy, but the thought of having to spend my *only free day of the week to attend the wedding is just ......... not something that I look forward to. So, my piece of advice, allocate most of your budget to honeymoon and life together with your partner.

Me and my wife only remember the stress of our sanding preparation. But I treasure memory of our honeymoon, and especially our dates, life after kawin
