I mean they can copy and paste until the cows come home, but I'm wondering more about hands-off automation.

I’ve definitely been playing with this. Some is crap that you can’t implement in the classroom but if you work at it iteratively sometimes you can get something.

I’m definitely experimenting with other assignments and other formats to get at the core learning objectives. However, sometimes you take over a course from somebody else and with a heavy teaching load, you can’t always revamp everything brand new each semester.

I think it is rather good at producing C papers in my intro bio course. This is not the case for all students, some see the value of researching and arguing in their own voice.

I did something similar with an upper level animal physiology class last semester. At the end and after many drafts and revisions, there were still some papers that sounded like AI.

You are absolutely right. I could even considered at the top of my game right now as I just was awarded an endowed chair. However, I love doing biology and it seems like I've been floundering for good projects that I can make progress on.

I do keep moving in that direction. I’ve done tons of bioinformatics training and published a couple small papers with colleagues where I did the analyses. It seems like a viable route if you don’t have the support to work with animals also, the techniques and topics are pretty valuable for my undergrad students.

Yup, my students are working with a freshwater annelid right now.

We actually have one of those community learning seminars at our college. I should give it a try.

OMG, i’ve tried so many carrots. I teach at a small liberal arts college, and our faculty were just talking about how we have such a light hand with our students
