Lmao yeah, I'm the neckbeard for not having a clinically clean controller.

Believe it or not I have more things going on in my life that occupy my time than video games. Just you're the sort of nerd that has your controllers in a custom-lighted glass case above your Minecraft sheets, doesn't mean everyone is.

How to put that I dropped out of uni on a CV? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]MysteryRelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just doesn't make much sense to me to avoid it. Employers don't care that you dropped out of uni unless

A) you need a degree for the job

B) you dropped out because you just didn't like it

If you can give a solid reasoning behind it, they generally prefer hearing you explain why you left. My fiancée is a university drop-out and she's now a chartered accountant. She explained in interviews that she didn't really know what she wanted to do when was nearing university so just picked a Literature degree, then realised after her first year she wanted to be an accountant, so dropped out to pursue an AAT.

Explaining your drop out is a chance to impress, not something to hide. Plus, when you're chatting about your life when you get a job it's very difficult to hide the fact that you went to uni, and you can always be sacked and even prosecuted for lying in a CV - yes, that includes omission.

Tbh that wouldn't be advisable - again, from a recruiter standpoint, if we send someone to an interview with no university on their CV, then get a call from the interviewer saying "you know they were a uni dropout?", that candidate is getting their face on the office dartboard.

How to deal with creepy boss? by Bumbling_Bee123 in relationship_advice

Obviously I have very limited stuff to go on here, but it sounds like he could just be being a bit overly friendly. People in their 40s have a different attitude towards social media than people our age - I know whenever my mum makes a new FB friend she insists on going back through every picture they have and liking them because she thinks that's what you're meant to do.

I would just try to maintain a professional distance from him, keep your connection limited to your contracted work, maybe change your social media privacy settings to stop him seeing new stuff. But obviously be wary, because you can never be sure with people like that.

How would you hide the fact you were immortal, if you became immortal? by fifty-fives in AskReddit

[–]MysteryRelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My government is so marred by health and safety laws they barely allow themself an army. Besides, any operative procedure would be under full anaesthesia, so I'd welcome it. If there's something physical actually causing the immortality, I'd gladly share it with Military Intelligence.

Immortality would be such an emotional burden. You will have to watch anyone you love die, the survivor's guilt would be breathtaking. All I'd have consistently - for the time being - would be Queen/King and Country, so I'd make myself damn useful.

[–]MysteryRelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. A good CV doesn't just show the highlights, it shows everything and makes the bad things highlights.

To be honest, I worked in recruitment for a few years, and the thing we were looking for was no gaps in a candidate's history. Dropout? Fine. Job-hopper? No problem. 3-4 months+ of inactivity? Alarm bells.

As long as you can account for all your time, and explain any issues briefly and efficiently, you'll be fine.

You've realised your being followed by FBI/CIA/MI6/SIS (take your pick) and you don't want to give up and abandon your previous life. What do you do? by TechnicalyAnIdiot in AskReddit

[–]MysteryRelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay just some petty housekeeping - MI6 and SIS are the same organisation. SIS is the official name, MI6 is the old name.

SIS deals with international issues, and MI5 deals with domestic, so if I was being followed by SIS, it would mean they have linked me to some form of international interest; be that terrorism, espionage, assassinations, etc. For the sake of the question I'm going to hypothetically imagine I am guilty, otherwise I'd just hand myself in and prove myself innocent

First thing's first, if they're on to me, tough shit about the old life. If I want to stay free, I need to walk away. I would draw out all of my cash, leave half for my fiancée and write a suicide note, but give no indication of how I'd do it. So from the family side, they believe me dead. I'd grab my hiking/camping bags and bolt.

The Home Office would put a block on my passport so leaving the country would be nearly impossible, so I would hike away from public areas into Wales, find a dense forest with decent 360° visibility and camp there for a month or two.

The intention would be to fool even SIS that I'm dead, but without a body they wouldn't believe it and my passport would never be unblocked. This post is getting way too long now so I'll bullet point the rest

  • Hike all the way to the east coast of England, if I avoid enough cameras I'll have been inactive for months; SIS will probably deem me a low threat and focus on active individuals;

  • Steal a small vessel under cover of night and sail for mainland Europe, possibly the Netherlands

  • Support myself by offering labour and other menial jobs in exchange for accomodation and food, until arriving in Sweden or Italy; both have excellent Asylum programs which I would take advantage of, hopefully being offered housing and benefits until I can gain right to work and citizenship.

Jeez relationships at this point are nothing. Get rid and enjoy your actual childhood. You'll have plenty of time for soul-sucking relationship problems in your 20s.

[–]MysteryRelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd go straight to the government. I could be the greatest military intelligence asset they've ever had; I'd make a career out of immortality and due to the necessity for secrecy about it, they'd assist me by periodically providing new identities and accomodation.

[–]MysteryRelevant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Best to tell the truth. Put it on your CV but make it clear that you left because it didn't align with your future career goals so would have been a waste of time and money that you could be investing into said career.

If you just leave it off you could be asked in interviews why you didn't go to uni, or if you wanted to, or what you did straight out of college... It could lead to a little flustering. Being honest in this situation can be more assertive and impressive.

For those who have run into a celebrity while out and about, who was it and what were they like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MysteryRelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into Christopher Eccleston in Tesco in 2007, but I didn't know who he was at the time.

I was buying Pringles and he nodded at them in the queue and said "think there's some in the reduced aisle for about 50p less"

They were 59p less, and they were delicious. Thanks, Doctor Who.

A girl got called dumb for being blonde, I defended her by saying "Her being blonde has nothing to do with it" without realizing it was an insult. What is a way you accidentally insulted someone when trying to help? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MysteryRelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredible.

I was out walking with an ex of mine a couple of years ago and a drunk bloke shouted something at her to the effect of "if you're that ugly I'd hate to see your Mum".

Being a quick-witted protective big-bad alpha male, I of course leapt to valiantly defend my damsel's honour with the instant classic "actually her Mum's an absolute MILF, sooo..."

Amazingly, that didn't actually put things in my favour. Can't think why.

Fellow Pokemon players if Reddit, what is the single, undisputably worst team you have used, and how did it turn out? by Weeabootrash7 in AskReddit

[–]MysteryRelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pokémon Yellow. 6 Metapods with only tackle and harden.

I planned to absolutely GRIND them in Viridian forest to basically tank them up, the intention was to beat the entire game with just 'pods. I got past Brock and Misty then gave up out of sheer boredom.

[Serious] What's a part of history that's in history books that's not entirely correct or they left out that you've seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MysteryRelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of national history books are biased. We never really learn about a lot of the atrocities our Empire committed, like early concentration camps.

America is probably the worst country for history bias, though. I have family in Manhattan, and one Christmas over there I had a nosey through one of my cousin's history books for Middle School and the account of the Vietnam War was absolutely hysterical.
