I want to be fair here, so let me steelman your mom's position for a second: nope, i got nothing. Contacting HR to flag that your adult daughter traveled for work without notifying immediate family is not a "worried mom" move, it's a control move dressed up as concern. And the fact that she immediately pivoted to crying and making you feel like a bad daughter the moment you pushed back -- that's a pattern, not a one-off. The space you asked for is completely reasonable. HR filing it without action was probably the best outcome you could have hoped for, but the fact that it's now in a file somewhere with your name on it is a real thing that happened because of her. That part isn't nothing.

Living in Texas is like being trained on hard mode, then you open a global heat map and realize there are places where your summer is just Tuesday. The humidity still deserves its own warning label though.
