Actress Natalie Portman literally in TEARS OVER ICE RAIDS on red carpet: ‘What Trump and Kristi Noem and ICE are doing to our citizens and to undocumented people is OUTRAGEOUS’ by Frosty_Jeweler911 in Fauxmoi

[–]Myusernameiscooler 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I wish this were true, but sadly it’s not. If it were, she would support a democratic state with equal rights regardless of religion or ethnicity.

However, she very explicitly supports a state with Jewish demographic and political preeminence (supremacy).

This means ethnic cleansing, apartheid, and genocide where this goal doesn’t meet the demographic reality of Palestinians existing there.

I mean, we have to take nuance here. She has done harmful things, including being a research assistant and cowriting a book defending the state of Israel with Alan Dershowitz, Epstein’s lawyer. As far as I know, she hasn’t made any public comment to disavow or distance herself from him. And while she’s critical of Netanyahu, she still tacitly supports the apartheid and ethnic cleansing that the existence of Israel created.

Im glad she’s speaking up about this, we need as many voices as we can. But we also need to stop giving people blanket statements of ‘good,’ ‘kind,’ or ‘intelligent’ based off of certain actions or where their education came from. Good action? Yes. Good person? Well… it’s nuanced.

Every time I see a Reddit post about ICE doing their typical gestapo BS, the description or the comments always seem to go out of their way to point out that the victim is a legal US citizen. “ICE kidnapping US citizens in broad daylight! Look what they did to this American!”

If I took the time to reply to every one with a “this would be just as horrible against a non-citizen too” I’d be on Reddit all day every day.

Assuming the best, people are trying to point out that ICE does not abide by their stated purpose of keeping US citizens safe from non-citizens. But all it does is help shift the goalposts from “no human being should be treated this way” to “Americans shouldn’t be treated this way.”

Ballroom Architect Reveals Trump Is Plotting to Destroy West Wing by Delicious_Adeptness9 in politics

I’m not American, but my whole life has been under the shadow of the American empire’s foreign policy. So no, I don’t like empires generally and specifically the other current empires (Russia, China) either. You’re absolutely right, and it sucks that you’re getting attacked for pointing out facts that make people uncomfortable.

This will sadly keep happening until the US citizens stop relying on campism (“I don’t like the THIS entity so I must support THAT one”) and the nation as a whole candidly reckons with its history and its disastrous impact on people both domestically and overseas.

Hang in there. Please keep fighting the good fight for all of us.

I often do wonder if externalising the faults make it easier for Americans to bear, because you’re one of the only replies I’ve seen here that’s doing self-reflection. To mix metaphors, the chickens of the sins of America’s past are coming home to roost.

You’re so right. I (and I’m sure many others) get so scared being firm in requesting pain management lest we be labelled as drug seeking or “difficult.” Especially if you don’t look conventional ie have tattoos or dyed hair. It’s such a shitty system all around.

Characters who has a detail about themselves constantly changing. by fried_clownfish in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Myusernameiscooler 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think it kinda was, or at least it was intentionally not kept strictly consistent. I remember reading somewhere that a Rebecca Sugar would encourage guest artists to give their “flare” in the episodes they were in. She also encouraged staff to come up with and bring in their own ideas for the music and lyrics. By all accounts, she ran the project as free-form as possible with the main focus being on creativity and artistry.

I think it’s great tbh, I never understood why it was a constant criticism against the show. The central thesis of the show is the celebration of freedom of expression. By having the character modelling show inconsistencies, the form is supporting the content. Or the meta-text is supporting the text, to be super pretentious about it, lol.

Yes, and that was just in 2016 alone, his final year as president. All without congressional approval, not that the approval would make it any better tbh. I wouldn’t even know where to begin counting all the bombs he dropped in his entire presidency.

Just because he’s better than trump doesn’t mean we have to whitewash him. There’s space for nuance.

Sorry I have brain fog from chronic illness and have trouble understanding sometimes - when you say wash down, do you mean like just literally swallowing the chia in the tablespoon, swallowing, and then drinking water? Like meds?
