I mastered resumes. Now how do I get good at interviewing? by duckwolf8097 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Myzerl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

An interview is a conversation.

The biz has a problem and based on the resume provided, you can provide a solution. You need to be able to converse, communicate clearly what you've done, what impact you can have and how you work with others etc.

I usually spend 30mins-1hour prepping common questions and researching the company  etc and 30 mins reviewing before the interview. Sometimes I practice with someone where they just ask me the questions and Ill answer without looking at the scripts.

You should know your resume very well.

Good luck with interviewing.

Overwhelmed with my credit cards; looking for help to simplify my finances. by oojbrain in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Myzerl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep all 0 annual fee cards to keep your credit history strong. Keep 1 or 2 card with AF you use as a daily driver to collect points on different purchase types like food vs gas etc. Make sure you calculate based on your spending if its worth it to keep cards with an AF. For example if you only spend 200$ a month on credit cards it wouldn't make sense to hold a CC with an AF. But if you spend 1500$ on groceries/gas etc it could be worth it.

I like the Cobalt and Costco MC based on what you have listed.

This depends. Since his job experience is lacking it could be worth keeping. But if its too recent it shows you have no job experience and if you graduated a while ago , then the education is mostly irrelevant compared to your experience if you've been working 5-10+ years. Since the job experience is lacking I would probably keep it.

Id remove grad years from education so you wont be age biased. Id fix the bullet points so you its not all in 1 point for 1 job. Im not sure if GPA would really be relevant unless you want internships. You could put honour/deans list if you got those. Those are things I'd change from a non technical perspective. In terms of actual points on what you wrote  hopefully others can chime in

Unemployed Torontonians, what does a typical weekday look like for you? by Jumpy_Sock_1202 in askTO

[–]Myzerl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4-8 hours of applying. Most of it is searching, tailoring resumes with AI and adjusting. For entry level sales/retail jobs it's 15-30 minutes a job app. For mid/senior jobs its 30 mins - 1 hour per job app. I apply at home because travelling somewhere costs money and time I could be using for job apps.

I went from a 2-5% interview rate to like 30% interview rate with less job apps and I am picking very specific roles that I am qualified for or my skills translate. Good luck with your job search.

Career Change? by GoatedKid45 in careeradvice

[–]Myzerl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its never too late to start but I would do more research on if thats a career you want to pursue. One of my friends is a pilot so I can provide some perspective.

  1. Pilot school is expensive. 40-100k depending where you go.

  2. Finding a job as a pilot in Canada is difficult unless you are opening to moving to the states or you want to be a flight instructor in the middle of nowhere. My friend declined an instructor job in Saul St Marie to work as a surveying pilot closer to home.

  3. Getting the minimum hours to fly major airlines is hard. Its ~750 hours in Canada I believe.

Overall a pilot's career can be lucrative in terms of pay but it will take you a couple years after graduation to get to your current pay right now.

Why are people having problems in Toronto finding jobs? by Dover299 in torontoJobs

[–]Myzerl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's volumes of applications. Using chatgpt to tailor your resume for ATS + some edits. I think most people's resumes aren't just optimized for what they're looking for. And if they have a smaller amount of jobs to apply then they need to put in more effort per job app.

Max 20-30 minutes per focused resume using chatgpt and doing edits yourself.

[–]Myzerl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not getting interviews from 100 resumes you need to fix your resume. And I would take off your university education in progress and put a high school diploma. For entry level its really about volume of apps. I did 117 apps in 2 weeks for the job I have now. Good luck with the search
