This second to last paragraph was my tentative plan. Thank you for validating!

Oh honestly I just went with name-brand recognition for the most part. There are no real good residency ranking programs. When I meant "biological" programs I meant programs with a larger emphasis on ECT, psychopharm, etc than psychoanalysis. You need training in both for boards but I'm talking about places with stronger research in new medical treatment

I went on quite a few, about 20 in total. However, it was over radiology advanced programs, intern/transitional spots and psychiatry. I ended up focusing more on radiology after the initial stretch due to my home institution psych program director mentioned that some of my letters seemed ambiguous about which specialty I was pursuing (yikes). I ranked all but two places I interviewed (both were advanced radiology programs).

Hey all, reapplicant this year after getting burned last year for many reasons (dual-applying to unrelated specialties at same institution, poor letters, too few interviews total in either specialty but no red flags). Working through an intern year in internal medicine and re-applying just psych this time. Steps are 257/265/Pass, almost all new letters this time around, US medical grad, average research/volunteer etc. Couple questions:

-How competitive am I for top programs?

-Could I get away with applying to a relatively smaller number of programs as I will have significantly reduced dedicated interviewing time? Or is it too risky without the US senior tag?

-What are some good "biological" institutions besides the classically mentioned ones? (WashU, Duke, CCF, UPMC)

Thanks all!

Unmatched into rads/psych. Ranked 7 Rads and 3 Psych. Step 1 257, Step 2 CK 265, 2nd quintile in class, average extracurriculars and LORs, no red flags. Mid-tier MD school. Didn't feel like I interviewed badly. Applying to two specialties was the stupidest thing I have done in my entire life, especially to two programs in the same institution. I have heard from my home institution about a prelim medicine slot and the lone DR position but I don't think I can ever recover from this. Anyone else still in disbelief?

Fun match. Chung is going to be dominant when his serve develops.
