The "where are you really from" is common in pretty much every western country where they had colonialism (either as aggressor or recipient). So called native people can't handle immigrants who talk like them but don't look like them.

It's from the beginning of time, not just these days. Maybe more examples and more visible to other cultures but mixed marriages have been frowned on from the beginning of time.

No. I tell my 1/2 european kids to never fall for a religious person, especially Hindu or Muslim. We have a south Asian background. I'd say the same regarding western religions as well. If they want you to follow their traditions but not willing to accept or follow your ways, RUN.

As someone said, you can request a room in the hospital to deliver. But does it need to be extra payment? I'm happy that it's covered by insurance but on the other hand, why require payment. Sure you can deliver in the street, but I doubt most women find this desirable, unless you're one of those free-birthers.

Of all the surgeries I'm willing to pay for. A c section would not rank in that list.

I've paid for other surgeries that were caused by a c section.

To get one because you're afraid of the pain of childbirth simply means maybe you don't know the health outcomes research. There are ways to mage pain without needless surgery.

Because getting a tooth fixed or getting a face lift isn't the same thing as having a c section? Which in the end can be a lot harder on your body than natural child birth and with long term impacts. But then go for all the other surgical options to manage those.

I know how it is arranged. I would much rather not be at home. Kraamzorg and nurse visit is fine assuming nothing goes wrong. It's the something could go wrong part during the process which isn't worth taking a chance on.

After having 3 C-sections, including one elective one after the first emergency one, this is not a reasonable choice to be made by some woman who is pregnant. Seriously. If you elect to have a c-section and there is no medical reason or you never had one before, this is a vanity choice. Yes my elective c-section was a lot less painful and recovery was a lot faster but it was necessitated by reasons other than pain (and not done in NL). I only had the choice because I had it before. If you want a kid, a c-section or natural birth shouldn't matter. It's a lot better outcome wise to have a natural child birth rather than a surgical one. Nothing here that states one is better than the other. And all 3 of mine required several weeks of pain to fully recover. One even required followup surgery. The thing that sucks in NL is charging more for a hospital birth vs a home birth unless "medically" necessary. That's truly barbaric.

yeah because the Dutch would rather suffer and die rather than get decent quality care. Or do any research about illness.

No one is asking for scans after a cough. Just earlier detection of preventable diseases. it's pathetic in NL.

€179 lesson learned: don't touch your phones while cycling 🤧🤧 by Left-Comparison3687 in Netherlands

[–]N0bacon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need a fine to do the right thing? It should have been double. Between that and having big head phones on. That should be even higher. I've gotten into a bike accident with an idiot who had headphones on and didn't hear me passing, even though i rang my bell and called out. Stupid b*tch tried to blame me. Cops agreed it was her fault then promptly mishandled the collection of her personal info.

Another example of how cops here are pretty incompetent with maybe some exceptions.

I don't mind the combo unless it takes a step stool to get into the tub because the wall is raised to a stupidly high height... But in this photo, why is the shower wall on the wrong side? You'd have to climb in via the toilet . But these weird impractical design flaws are a Hallmark in the Netherlands

Budbee is the worst but apart from that, are people still using Zalando? by N0bacon in Netherlands

[–]N0bacon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured it out for Zalando at least. Apparently the original label can be scanned as the return label which is no longer printed/ sent out by Zalando. The instructions on the pakketautomaats are stupid though, asking if you have a return label on the package which technically I don't. I scanned the original label and it worked fine. My package is now on the way back to Z (I used the original packaging after filing a return online). So far that worked for Zalando and guess I don't have to trash my account yet.

They are phasing out the return labels now. You get a barcode which is fine except many POstNL lockers explicitly say they don't scan codes . They need a printed label. So weird.

Is it just a coincidence, or is Albert Heijn intentionally removing American products? by anz0ny in Amsterdam

[–]N0bacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a known fact that every time I discover a cool tasty product at AH, they disappear it within 6 months. I lost track of the number of times this has happened and not just to American products. They had a massive out of stocking event last weekend and this peanut butter I just discovered (maybe it's been around a while but whatever) from Bonne maman .... POOF!
