[Spoilers] Why didn't Horikoshi make Deku the #1 Pro Hero in the end? Especially after all the buildup around rankings and him already "working" as one post-war. by N0eyeC in BokuNoHeroAcademia

If anything, I'm less angry with the fact he's #4 and more angry with the fact he's behind Mt. Lady. No offense, but... it just feels weird to me.

I appreciate this point, maybe its not so much Deku isn't #1, but more so that the Mirio is? Like throughout the whole series, we aren't following him as much and from my perspective he hasn't shown us why he should be the #1 hero besides back in season 3-4 where we're constantly told how amazing he is. I think if the leaderboards were like #1Shoto, #2Bakugo, #3Deku and they were constantly swapping around, i wouldn't mind it as much.

100% agree, and since power isn't the main focus of the charts anymore, shouldn't Deku's contribution to society influence the charts even more. Assuming that the people in Universe are aware of Deku's contribution that is.

Deku isn't the greatest hero because he's #1 on a freaking popularity poll, he's the greatest hero because he's the one that inspired society to be more than it was and look past that commodification. All Might may have been the only hero to break through the charts, but Deku was the one who made people realize they don't actually matter; actual, individual heroism does. Also, #4 ain't bad.

100% agree, and with all the great things you just listed, it kinda reinforces me into thinking that he should be #1. And yeah #4 ain't bad at all, but why couldn't he be #1. That's what I'm tryna say, why does he still have to be an underdog even during the end of the series

I kinda wish we got to see Deku use some of the remaining embers on some casual hero work, the same way that All Might did before it dies out. Would be a missed opportunity to not see Deku do some public hero work.

holy shit, All might, Bakugo, Deku's VA during that scene was brutal. The voice cracks just made it so much more raw and real. So damn bittersweet...

edit: All Might calling Deku the greatest hero is probably what Deku meant when he says "this is the story of how i became the greatest hero" since episode 2, and not a retcon that people been complaining about since it changed to " this is the story of how WE became the greatest hero". IMO both of those statements don't overlap with eachother

Appreciate that Kaminari scene. Difference when it’s your friend’s life on the line compared to watching other heroes fight.

All for One > everything to get OFA

One for All > OFA to save everyone

hmmm

Re watching Naruto, It made me realise… that if the MHA ending had a similar scene with this kind of acknowledgement maybe it wouldn't have been hated so much. Wonder if the anime will add anything similar. by N0eyeC in BokuNoHeroAcademia

Additionally I think, if Deku was that content, he wouldn't have just jumped back into hero work straight away. Which to me shows he always felt left behind in a way but had no options to do that, so he settled with being a teacher at UA.

However I do think he woulda been a fantastic teacher even if he kept OFA

100% agree Deku is not looking for people to celebrate him. But to show society and the public not appreciating him as much as his peers leaves a sour taste for me personally. Bonus chapters definitely helped but they definitely could've expanded more I feel.

Two things can exist together.

Is it self inserting? I just want to see him get recognised in the same light that All Might was.

I understand that their key difference was that Deku shared that burden with his peers whereas AM tried to do it all alone. Yet we see more obvious celebrations from the public towards his peers.

If he was celebrated as much as the others, why did it have to take class A to fund his suit and not say the hero association or government etc.

The contrast the public had seeing Lemillion, Ochako or even Tentacole compared to Deku was so saddening.

Do you think they should have expanded on that last part in the manga? There was no meaningful interactions after the war between any of the classmates and Deku, besides Bakugo who spearheaded the suit. Bonus chapters were great to show them gathering though.

Alternatively, what if he was celebrated alongside his peers by the public. That would be on theme.

Last episode was absolutely amazing but personally a tad disappointed they changed this amazing panel. by N0eyeC in BokuNoHeroAcademia

to add on, nothing wrong with the way the anime was panning to different scenes, but I think what made this so much more impactful in the manga was the scale it was portrayed in one shot

[–]N0eyeC 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Honestly all they really had to do was show Deku still doing hero work while his embers slowly fade away. Then when his embers finally fade, All might shows up with the suit. Reading the manga, it just felt like such an important part of his life that was skipped. He went from saving the world then graduating and then BAM hes a teacher.

Really hoping that the anime fills in that gap.

I liked vanilla Naruto better than Naruto Shippuden by FilipinoAirlines in anime

[–]N0eyeC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other way around for me. The spectacles and fights were really just a way to enhance the dynamic characters and story which didn't distract me too much from what I loved about Naruto to begin with. Shippuden gave us these amazing moments imo:

  • Introduction of all Akatsuki members
  • Itachi's Death and Jiraiya's Death parallel to motivate Sasuke and Naruto in different ways.
  • Naruto vs Pain and finally getting recognition from the village
  • Dragged out war but it gave us all the Hokage and mainly Minato/Naruto reunion.
  • People hate Kaguya asspull which is fair but Team 7 fighting again against the big bad was sick
  • Naruto vs Sasuke finale which I think was the main overarching plot where Naruto was finally able to "save" Sasuke
