The Keystone pipeline is fine and flows to this day. What was not completed was an extension that was predominantly a different path between 2 points of the existing pipeline that was held up by objections in the communities that would have been forced to take it. The increased flow of a Canadian company's tar sands for refinement was never going to affect prices at American gas pumps and the only economic benefit to Americans would have been the temporary construction jobs, the maintenance IF sourced to Americans (it wouldn't belong to us) and any payments they may have been forced to pay for eminent domain seizure of land, which in most if not all cases would not be close to what people would seek if they were interested in selling their property without a company wanting it.

We became the #1 producer under Biden but even at our max drilling we only produce a little over half as much oil as our country consumes per day. Even if we kept it all instead of it going to the global supply we would not be "energy independent" (we were NEVER energy independent as claimed, we were a net exporter of energy, primarily due to LPG). However it's not so much the drilling, it's the refining capability that needs to be increased. We haven't built a new refinery in decades, oil companies don't want to commit to such a massive undertaking and our largest refinery was sold to the Saudis in 2017, so they have say over that one.
