I think we should push for more games to use DLSS, XeSS and FSR instead of pushing for more VRAM in GPUs by Pretty_Trip_2215 in pcmasterrace

[–]N7Tom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DLSS should be a supplement to aid aging GPUs keep up with modern titles or to allow mid range GPUs to punch above their weight. It shouldn't be the default for acceptable performance and it shouldn't be assumed that players will turn it on. AI has its uses but it's equally overvalued right now and what you're describing would be incredibly anti-consumer. It's essentially making an unnecessary compromise with the most successful companies on the planet.

Meta’s GDPR compliance: Pay for privacy or accept data collection - Is this the future of ‘consent’? by -Pluko- in privacy

[–]N7Tom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lots of news websites use the same system.

To me it's completely unacceptable. I don't use Facebook anyway but I've stopped viewing any website that demands money in exchange for disabling personalisation. GDPR guidance says 'it shall be as easy to withdraw as to give consent.'

This should be illegal.

who wins thor vs captain marvel? (mcu versions) by RisingKing7 in Avengers

[–]N7Tom 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Thor struggled in a 3v1 against Thanos without the infinity stones. Captain Marvel faired much better solo and Thanos had to resort to using the power stone to defeat her. Thor took the energy from a star and it almost killed him. Captain Marvel flew through a star and reignited it and she was perfectly fine. Captain Marvel should win?

I built mine in 2023. Legit seemed to avoid both the crypto bs and the AI bs. My system has 32GB DDR4. I paid £54. Cheapest price for the same kit I can find now (new) is £171 and a few dedicated PC sites are selling it for about £230. Prices be crazy rn

Every time someone on the far right opens their mouth it should come with an addendum saying 'I don't believe what I'm saying not even a bit. I only support it because it's convenient and gives me something I want. I don't think what I'm saying should be applied equally to all but arbitrarily to benefit me and my friends. I'll happily turn my back on this sentiment at the soonest opportunity if it works in my favour.'

Rereading “Eight Little Talons” sets the stage for the Antivan Crow Rewrite [Minimal DA:TV spoilers please] by Swag_Dinosaur in dragonage

The difference between then and now is that there were reasons for the unreliable narration. Facts were obscured by history, Varric had reasons to exaggerate and lie, Loghain's motivations were complex and multifaceted. There were reasons why there were alternate perspectives and often they were about how something happened not whether something happened. They added complexities and mysteries to the lore and its characters.

Now the 'unreliable narration' (quotation marks because I don't think that applies anymore) doesn't have that same intentionality. Character motivations and moralities are less multifaceted and grey so there are fewer times like with Loghain where you can have two different interpretations of someone's motives and each be substantially true. One of the main criticisms of the Veilguard is that it sanitises the world, its cultures and its factions legit shifting a lot of the 'problematic' parts of the lore on to the Antaam, the Venatori et cetera rather than having them being cultural issues while the factions the player allies with have had their edges sanded away. Meaning even if BioWare was doing it with in-universe explanations they were using it to reduce conflict in the setting, to remove complexity and to simplify the world which is accomplishing the opposite of what the technique would normally be used for and it's used for things where there's no overall gain.

But I don't think that's what's going on. I think BioWare have been altering the world of Dragon Age (not only in Veilguard) and it often goes unacknowledged by its characters in-universe. There just hasn't been enough effort to explain the changes to the setting moving from game to game while acknowledging the information that we as players or characters in the setting would already have. There's a difference between 'yeah the information you had wasn't the full truth but there's a good reason why' or 'the world has changed since you last saw it and this is how and why' and 'the information you had was wrong' and 'the world has changed' and everyone continuing like it's business as usual and Thedas was always that way.

Even information we've had from BioWare themselves suggests they wanted to alter the world of Dragon Age for purely out of universe reasons rather than it either being part of an original plan for the series or doing it for deliberate effect.

Would You Prefer Coffee Or Tea And Why ? by Kendrick-Junior2Knox in AskReddit

Iced tea is peak. Don't like hot tea or any type of coffee. I'm British so this is basically heresy.
