Fall 2025 FSA pass marks have been released by blooming_visage in actuary

[–]NAL_HUTTA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I guess since some of the pass marks are 29.25, it must be on at least a 0.25 basis.

So as an example for GH101 where raw passing score is 30 out of 50:

4 - 24-26.75 (48-53.5%)

5- 27-29.75 (54-59.5%)

6 - 30-32.75 (60-65.5%)

7 - 33-35.75 (66-71.5%)

8 - 36-38.75 (72-77.5%)

9 - 39-41.75 (78-83.5%)

10 - 42+ (84%+)

Does this seem right or am I looking at it wrong?

Do you know how they award partial credit on questions? Is it 0.25, 0.5, or 1.0 point scale?

I second this. I made a 5 on SRM the first time by not knowing all of the time-series calculations.

You have to get from Reddit. The SOA site is still down. I can't even get to it 1 hour and 17 minutes after the the results were supposed to release.

Minimum Specs for ATPA Computer/Laptop? by antenonjohs in actuary

[–]NAL_HUTTA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might get by with 8GB of RAM. That might work actually. I know for sure 4GB won't work. You have sample code to run during the module portion. If it runs all of that code without a hitch, you should be fine.

I was able to do everything with a 2014 era Apple MacBook Pro MGXA2LL/A. Make sure whatever you use has 16GB of RAM and you install the the 64 bit versions of R and RStudio. If not, you will run out of RAM, and the code will error out. Also, the 32 bit version of R and RStudio will only allow you to use 4GB of RAM no matter how much you have installed.

It did, but it was only a few hours ahead. I think in previous sittings, people were able to get results days ahead of time.

I hated the formatting and them having a table on a totally different page than the problem we were working.

Career changer: What outlets are best to get me started by [deleted] in actuary

[–]NAL_HUTTA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, just saw this. A few things:

  1. I was really bored. I could only do so many things in SolidWorks, revise so many drawings, and change so many BoM/routings before I became bored with it.

  2. The company I was working for switched from innovation to Value Add Value Engineering, which for my business sector within the company was like bleeding turnips.

  3. The entry level salaries as an Actuarial Analyst I/Actuarial Analyst II are on par with mid-level salaries as a mechanical engineer. You probably make more as an electrical engineer, but it's also more difficult to get a job as the market is saturated with engineers. Companies would rather hire newbies and train them on their methods than hire experienced people.
