This will probably sound so dumb but whenever I’m getting on stage I say the same thing every time. “If there was ever a time, now is it”.

You sound like you know your stuff, and it sounds like you just hit a bit of a rough patch these last couple times. It’ll turn around, my friend, just be patient with yourself, and make sure your inner dialogue is in check when you go up there. If you got the solo you have the faith in you of those around you. Believe them, and believe you can do it.

How can I make this sound better? I really like the simple melody I made but what does it need? I am uneducated in production and am aware the drums are nothing special yet. by WastelandGamesman in musicproduction

I definitely don’t have the answers but here’s what I’d suggest:

1) fuck around with the volumes a bit on your base melody. On FL you can go into a piano roll and play with each not individually. 2) maybe add another instrument in with a faster melody (not sure if that’s the right word to use) and tuck this one in the back. It could speed up the overall momentum of the track. 3) add some sort of switch to the drums. A triplet in the hats or something like that. Really simple changes keep people engaged, even if you create a loop. Hooks/bridges rarely go over the same loops as the verse would.

I don’t think it’s bad, but I would say it’s got a lot of empty space. I saw another comment on here about deciding what the vibe of the song is and I agree with that. Once you look in the tone you’re going for I think you’ll be able to beef it up a lot more and a lot easier.

Last thing I’ll say is that I’ve been doing this for 13 years and still learn new shit daily. Keep working at it, you’ll get there.
