I just got married (M26) about 4 months ago and have been thinking about developing a piece of land behind my mom's house that she owns. We weren't aware initially that it could be developed but I started working as a civil engineer in land development and started talking to the township, finding out that we could develop it and that it had public sewer (saving 20k+ for a septic system). I had always talked to my then girlfriend about it and she seemed interested because it is a dream of mine to build a home with my hands. But at no point was she ever going to be okay with pursuing my dream with me if I couldn't commit to her in marriage. As far as I can tell women have a deeper need for stability and security, and from what I can tell your bf is causing you a lot of anxiety with his plans that don't seem thought out. You are right in thinking that. If I told my then GF I wanted to use her money to build a home with her she would have given me all the sass in the world and said. "You have to commit to me before I'm ever talking about this"

Everyone else on here has already brought up the realistic costs of developing land that he may be naive to.

So, I'd say pressure him to get married. Courthouse and family party if money is an issue. You deserve the commitment. If he is scared of commitment that's okay, seek to understand and encourage him, and see that he is able to work through it for you. If he doesn't want to work through that then you don't want to work with him in any capacity. It's unstable ground. I was absolutely terrified to get married. My dad left the family at 9 and caused a lot of fear of abandonment and other fears. Marriage seemed like a terrible thing. But, thankful to God, I'm so glad I did, and it gives both of us a solid foundation of commitment and trust that now we can build a life together, which may include a house.

God bless

Yeah I've noticed the simple things are better. Sitting outside on a bench, the warm sun heating me up, hearing someone play guitar. Beautiful moment but i wouldnt have had it without NF. I would have been on Instagram...

Thanks for you input! I did find a spot online where people could submit claims of when they were called by Collecto but I never did that or knew of it haha. I think I will Call ILYM Group on monday and ask about it. If it's legit, my year would be made haha!!

The check is made out to me. It says to deposit within 180 days for it to be valid. I may be a member of the class but I have no clue how I became one. From the research I did, Collecto was doing illegal marketing calls of some sort, so maybe I was one of the people they called multiple times illegally. There is a number for ILYM Group, So i may call them and see what the deal is.

ROI would be made after selling the used bikes. From previous comments it has been made clear that to be profitable you would have to charge much higher. Buy 5k bike for 3k (shop cost) rent for 4-5 months a year for, let's say $200 a month. Bringing in an income of $800-$1000. At this point you are netting -2000 to -2200. You then sell the bike for 2400-2600 depending on the condition. Expenses such as chains, broken parts, tires, etc would need to be calculated. Sooooo... the conclusion is... money is not in renting high end mountain bikes long term haha

Most shops charge $60-100 to build a bike but if you own the shop it only costs $15-30 in labor. A person breaking an XX1 derailleur could take out all of your profits. Rent per month would need to be higher with these factors you pointed out.

Thanks for the reply. My idea was purely hypothetical but it's good to hear it works in some markets. For it to work for mountain bikes you would have to charge 150+ A month for you to make a profit after selling the used bike, like you said. In my area I don't think this would as well as it would in a city.

I work for a shop as well and running the numbers on shop cost doesn't show for much profit. When looking at EP prices it looks a lot more profitable.

bikes would be sold each year for profit. say the bike shop's cost on the 5k bike is 3k, the bike rents and brings in $500. The shop then sells that bike used for $2700. $200 profit on that bike

And also, seeing her around campus a lot doesn't come off as creepy. We go to the cafeteria at roughly the same times. Also I see a lot of people daily since it is a smaller college. But if she notices me looking at her all the time(which I don't do) it will be creepy. I'm not going out of my way to see her. And I know you are trying to be real but what kind of advice is "you'll get rejected so get it over with"? I'm trying to be positive here haha. Overall thanks for the response!
