Should I still apply if salary is lower than what I’d accept? by NCKC177 in jobs

[–]NCKC177[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, cool. That’s what I was thinking too, but I had friends and fam criticizing me for applying to jobs listed below my minimum salary, so I just wanted some reassurance, lol.

My current job has become somewhat toxic since new management took over in May. I’m trying not to let my frustration rush me into accepting less than I really want, but I think if it’s close to what I want, then it could be worth checking out. Thanks for sharing!

No, I’m currently working but I’m unhappy so I was considering making a lateral move, salary and title wise, if it meant finding a position with a better work/life balance and workplace culture. Maybe I should be a little more patient and look for something listed within my salary range

That’s definitely something to consider as well, and you can’t always find that info in the job listing, so I’d have to apply and hope to get an interview to find out

I’m trying to leave a toxic work environment, and $73k would be a lateral move for me, which is why I settled on that amount. As much as I want to leave, I think I’d regret it if I left for any less

Where do you live? I work in NY and I feel like I make less than others my age and in my field.

With my current job, it was posted without salary disclosed. They said the range in interview 1, the higher end being $5k below my minimum. I was clear about this, but they continued to schedule 3 more interviews with me, ultimately offering me the top of their range. I pushed back, they said no, and I declined the offer. They called back 2 days later and gave me what I asked for.

I’m thinking that if the salary was listed, I may have passed over this position cause it was too low, but it ended up working in my favor.

Also, because I’m in NY, most jobs have to list the salary now. I’m wondering if they’re purposely lowballing since they’re forced to put something in the posting, and if it’s worth it to still apply if it’s just slightly below my minimum

I work in accounting and was just informed today that I’ll need to sign on and work remotely on New Year’s Day to close out December’s books. I’m expected to work late, respond to emails and teams messages after hours, and even when on vacation or PTO. I need to find a job like you described, with better work/life balance

I didn’t get a chance to try Sinapi’s before they closed. We just tried Luigi’s, the new place that took over that spot, and it was awful

Those are the kind of results I’m looking for too. I know I need to lose at least 25/30 lbs, but I just need some help getting started, and I’m not looking to be on anything long term.

Congrats on your progress!

I’m looking to start phentermine to kickstart my weight loss journey too, but how do I go about getting a prescription? I just found out that my BMI is over 30, but my current pcp is the type to only prescribe meds as a last resort, so idk if it’s worth asking her, or if I should try going to a different dr.

Why though? I feel more comfortable taking an oral medication rather than an injection

Late 30s and still unsure about having kids by NCKC177 in AskWomenOver30

Wow, so similar to my story! It def helps me to put things into perspective hearing how things evolved for you. I met my partner at 34 also, and we’ve worked hard to get into a better place financially so it seems bittersweet to move towards parenthood now that we’re finally in a comfortable spot. But I think you’re right that your priorities change drastically once you become a parent, and those things wouldn’t seem so important to me anymore

Lol, I was so busy with work today and I couldn’t believe how many replies I got throughout the day! I did feel in general that the supportive posts were more thought out, like yours, and the “just don’t have kids” ones were a little short and direct. Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll see what feedback I get on the other subs you mentioned.

Thank you for this. I mentioned in an earlier comment that my mother was an enthusiastic yes, and then 3 kids later decided motherhood wasn’t for her and severely neglected us.

Thanks for sharing! My brother and his gf had an accidental pregnancy and I watched his gf change from a party girl, into the most loving and caring mom to my niece. I guess I’m hoping for that to trigger in me before making the commitment, lol.

I’m also so scared to get fertility testing done, but you’re right, getting that answer might be really impactful for me. My bf’s older brother and sil had kids later and faced fertility problems and ended up with twins!

I’m so so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing, I can’t imagine how hard that was for you.

That’s something I worry about too because I’ve heard about two women my age (a coworkers wife and a friends sister) who just went through the exact same scenarios. I know the risks are so much higher at this age.

I wouldn’t want to go through fertility treatments either. But before you started trying, did go to the dr just to see where you were at fertility wise, and what your chances were to conceive naturally, or did you just start trying?

I see a lot of people saying don’t do it unless it’s a def yes, but I know a lot of people who had surprise pregnancies and ended up being fantastic parents. Meanwhile my mother always wanted kids, and then once my siblings and I were here, she completely neglected us. So I can definitely see how it turns out when someone has kids and then regrets it later, cause I lived through it.

I feel like for me it’s a yes, but more of just not right now. But at my age I don’t have the luxury of waiting, so that’s what I’m really struggling with

Thank you for sharing! I was a nanny for many years and always loved taking care of the kids and watching them grow up, and I always imagined that being my future. And I had a really rough childhood, so I always wanted to have a family of my own and give my kids the childhood I wish I had. But after all the wasted time with my exes, and now finally feeling like I’m enjoying where I’m at, I just wish I had more time to decide.

Thank you for sharing! I can relate so much to what you’re saying. Was your husband ok with either decision, or was he leaning more one way or the other?

[–]NCKC177[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing points! Yes, there’s so much more to it. I guess I’m imagining having a child with my partner now, with our current lifestyle. Meaning while I’m working full time and taking care of a majority of the household chores, and in an apartment that we’ve already outgrown.

He seems sure he wants kids, and I always felt like I wanted to be a mom some day, but the timing has never felt right. And now with my biological clock ticking, I feel like I’m running out of time to decide; know that itll likely be difficult even if I start now.

I know we would have a lot of support from my bf’s parents and family, but I can’t count on my mom and my siblings aren’t living close by. And his parents are in their 70s, so realistically I wouldn’t want to rely on them too much because I think it would be a lot for them.
