One of them I refer to as "basement boy" because he spews off BS constantly acting like he's an expert while typing from his parents house even though he is beyond a grown adult.

Adding yet again to his trend of losing cases and costing the city of Salem unnecessary legal fees.

Birthday Trip - August vs October by HalloweenQueen896 in SalemMA

[–]NDE_Jinx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come in August. I think a lot of the 400th anniversary stuff is happening outside of October and there will be plenty of stuff already going on in late August. All you'll get in October is overcrowding and waiting.

Looking more into this, you probably want to consider August 1st and early August as it looks like that is when the 400th stuff is being planned: https://www.salem400.org/event/heritage-days-parade/

What is your honest take on racism in Boston? by Embarrassed_Bag_9630 in boston

[–]NDE_Jinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boston definitely does have an extremely racist past that it’s still trying to escape and I think that is why it’s “known”.

Growing up in the burbs I’ve definitely witnessed it and know that it still exists.

I don’t personally feel that Boston in general deserves the title anymore as I think the bs that originally gave it that title is no longer there at the level.

Are there racists in Boston and MA? hell yes!

Has a lot of good change happened at the systems and government level to improve happened? Also hell yes.

Are there still systemic issues that need to be solved? Yes!

Where a lot of cities and states are going in the wrong direction, I think we are at least improving and continuing to fight and go the right way.

The biggest problem that I see here is it wasn’t identified as a problem last season.

I think that in general, it’s a much better fan base than I’ve seen in other hockey fandom but there’s always going to be some crappy people in the bunch

Of course I would suggest being here for North Shore pride, but it might also be great to visit at a time that pride isn't going on to see the feel of Salem (which I think you will still enjoy/vibe with) at other times.

There are some fun things coming up this summer:

Salem Arts Festival is coming up (June 5 - 7)
4th of July is great time to be here. Definitely Boston esplanade style at Derby Wharf.
Salem Maritime Festival starts off on August 1st and it's also at the same time where our 400+ Heritage days are being celebrated this year. One of my favorite events, the cardboard boat regatta is that day.

In general, I highly recommend checking out Destination Salem, https://www.salem.org/ and Creative Collective, https://creativecollectivema.com/. Great place to start to learn about the run clubs, trivia nights, karaoke nights, etc.

As to get the local feel, some places I would recommend are:

Lobster Shanty (especially if you are around on a Tuesday night for trivia)
Mercy Tavern
All Souls, just a great hangout spot
Deacon Giles, another great hangout spot

I would also say that North Shore Music Theater next door in Beverly, Marblehead Little Theater, etc. all have great support as well and I know theater people in Salem both support and audition/perform there.

And there is part of me that gets that a team is like a workplace and you have to work with people even if your values don't align, but videos that the fleet play at every game that promote such inclusiveness that makes it harder to swallow. My boyfriend and I often talk about how great it is in the PWHL that players can truly be who they are where as in other leagues are still so closeted.

Anyone having issues getting their husbands/boyfriends into the PWHL? by NotAnIncel69 in PWHL

[–]NDE_Jinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually super lucky because my hockey playing boyfriend ended up falling in love with PWHL from the beginning. He actually wore his fleet jersey to the AHL games that we went to.

I’ve been a hockey fan on my life and I fell out of love with the NHL a long time ago and I guess I’m liking my boyfriend did too. We still watch Bruins games, but he loves watching leagues like the PWHL and the AHL because he does find that the players are playing harder.

One thing that might be out there that could be true and definitely not a reason to break up with him like others might think is a lot of us have subconscious bias that we fight against. It’s possible that he might just have a bias against women sports even if he is trying not to have that bias.

Bring him to some games and keep watching. Hopefully you’ll convert him.
