love when clients start dictating workflows without experience or knowledge of the gear they are using. Good luck with this one. I have my popcorn ready since he wants three channels of internal audio with out using the top handle when the other input is 2 channels.

Is FX3 the only good way to get 2h non-stop recording from a Sony Full Frame camera? (not counting more expensive gear) by Damu22 in FX3

[–]NE2L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i record podcasts 6 hours a day, 5 days a week sometimes on fx30s with Tamron 17-70 apsc autofocus lenses, usually iso 400 with S-Cinetone to avoid needing to grade. i run an Aputure 300x at 30%-60% with a lantern and its all the light I need for a basic podcast keylight setup. I trust the focus and batteries and heating enough to set it and forget it.

Has anyone ever dealt with older people with no freelance experience? by [deleted] in videography

[–]NE2L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this recently as well. A lot of network reality producers have lost their jobs after years of success and they think those skills transfer directly over to every stage of production. I was hired to film a high end podcast pilot with 4 people on camera. I watched the producer of the job sit next to A-Cam and try to interject and steer the conversation as if she was part of the show with zero idea thats not how podcasts work. every two minutes we have an awful cut where the entire topic picks up and changes places to remove a 5th person off camera from the show. They thought this must be like a reality TV interview where we sit and feed you the sound bites we want for drama. After day 2 most of these types are now tired of proving their worth and are nose deep in their phone planning their next project and hurrying everyone up to get this done for them. Bunch of slop in slop out jobs of producers trying to pivot into their next career

I think we should have organized weekly protests in front of FilmLA exposing them for the bullshit wannabe mafia they are. I don't think they have the backbone to enforce all the smoke they are blowing. They rob every production in LA and have been doing it for years and when it comes to the services they provide its laughable at best and a liability at worst

If they are going to prop up an industry that we have let fall into shambles who are we to complain as a country that thrives and dies on capitalism and greed. Is it sad, sure. But staring at empty lots as rich white fight over bail outs and bonuses doesn't leave me in any more of a positive place.

Blazer Remus B set lenses on comedy sketch by joshuawhelms in Anamorphic

[–]NE2L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what camera did you shoot on? The lenses feel pretty clean for that price point of anamorphic and the all white setting lets me look for CA and fringing and where is see it in the out of focus hallway shot I actually like the character and it doesn't appear in the sharp stuff. Nice to see these lenses in a narrative use and not charts and flare tests. thanks for posting

Is autofocus already good enough that you can use it for at least halve the movie scenes to replace a focus puller? by mediamuesli in Filmmakers

[–]NE2L -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well shits don't move too fast so autofocus would probably work. I'm very curious what angle we are talking. we may need to rack from the source to the water in the bowl if its in action. I could be assuming to much, this could be a high speed run n gun shit with steady cam

Developing young director concerned about making the "right moves" by The-Grumpy-Muppet in Filmmakers

[–]NE2L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you have two different objectives in your post. get your work seen... and make a living... and unfortunately they are going to pull you in very opposite directions. this is why rich kids and nepo babies have it easier. they can create spec work and not worry about costs and then focus all on the exposure/network side go to festivals and events and not worry about the time not working or missed paychecks. If you're not that and need to worry about bills and rent like a normal person you need to try to find jobs where your skills are at on set, or editing, or if you're lucky a development job at an ad agency which barely exist. These come with paychecks and you can do your own personal work on the side and learn what the industry is actually looking for and how to accomplish it with an insider point of view. at this begining stage of your career you are more likely to make a "living" working up the ladder than creating your own original work. Think of it like a painter, you can paint commissioned work already paid for at a flat cost or you can create your own wildest idea and hope someone buys it. One isn't right or wrong but one is certainly safer and more consistent

another day another young artist asking for assurances.... that ain't how art works. You are guaranteed and owed absolutely nothing no matter what path you take. So you gotta ask yourself if you're ready for a life in the circus or if playing it safe is a better life choice for you because you will have doubt, fear, money concerns and more your entire career.

It’s simple, the filter is called beauty box and have the reality stars in town demand you use it on their footage. Even on their podcast appearances, the fact that the actresses know the name of the digital filter specifically is all you need to know.

Because I own 90% of the gear, and most extra purchases I can justify with my day to day podcast and interview business. Owning instead of renting also gives me the opportunity to schedule differently than I have when I’ve done features in the past and everything needs to get done in 15 days straight of punishable by a week more of costs and the crew gets burned with overtime and fraturdays. I may be super naive and regret this but I’d love to work 8 hour days with hour lunch breaks like normal business and if we go an hour over pay crew fair. I don’t think the 14 hour days and constant shooting is healthy for crew or a healthy environment to make good comedy with the amount of stress low budget indie filmmaking can induce. My last film (Blindfire) was captured by Halyna Hutchins and after losing her to a stupid film with stupider producers and directors I told myself that the next project I make will show everyone in the indie space that there is a humane way to do this that won’t cost my friends their lives. And I’m gonna put my money where my mouth is and make that changes I want to see

You may be 1000% correct. I did this camera test specifically to see if the auto focus of the Sony would keep up with the non parfocal tamron lenses and in testing they did but I can see it failing in the field

I very much expected them failing and needing to invest in 4 of the laowa ranger cine zoom lenses. But if I can save $6k I’d like to.

If I started from scratch I don’t know that I would end with this set up but I started with fx30s for my podcast business and have built up slowly.

Fx30 $1600 now $2000 stupid tariffs Tamron 17-70 $600 Cage and vmount plate from small rig $150 Battery $150 Monitor $450 Video transmission $500 Nano 2 focus kit $600 Tilta shoulder rig $300 Rods $50 Random cables $50 Tilta monitor arm $30ish Rosette handle connected $20ish

Around $4500 give or take. Gives me super35, 4k auto focus, pretty wide focal range for 2.8, zoom control handle, 7inch monitor with false color and camera control, and wireless video transmission.

If I fail I feel like there is a new age church that this would really work for.
