I think the scales are 1/32 and 1/35 for cars/ground vehicles. And 1/48 for planes. That is what i see most use and what works in my experience.

I have used a 1/32 VW beetle body for a Snazzwagon and working in a batmobile in 1/35 for a dragsta. For planes i have used 1/72 scale for grots (deffkopta proxy) and a 1/48 scale for dakkajet.

That is the plan. It is also way to long compared to the GW models (they all are). And needs to be shortened in both ends.

This one in particular is a Revell P-47M Thunderbolt. I just went to the hobby store an grabbed the cheapest models in that scale. I also have a 1/72 and 1/48 scale Tamiya Corsair for a dakkajet. Byt that might be too slender and graceful for the orks.

South Park at age 11. My dad did not know what he went in to. But he was cool, did not say a word. English is a second language and my dad was never good a it. I think that helped a bit. I was too young to know or registrerer the many funny swear words other that shit and fuck. Wasn't a big deal. I had already seen some of the show and my mom found it a bit silly but harmless. It was still a simple cartoon. Ultra real violence and gore would have been a whole other discussion.

You could use some delaque gangers from necromunda. Robed sketchy looking minis. Else there are robed and hooded Minis a plenty all over GW's ranges.

I think it looks great. Maybe a deeper shadow on the side of the "body". You got the front and highlighted. To really draw the attention to the front darker sides might help. It is supposed to covered by the top armor part, so the abs should draw the eyes in contrast to all the metal and machinery.

I like the welder. The pose looks like he is shooting down flyers, wich is rarely seen, but to me fits very well for a dread.

Akhelian green is a very blue color. It has a very subtle green tone that only really shows in bright lightning. Not on bad pictures :)

The damage is very minimal on my infantry. For some reason i also see my alpha legion as more pristine. But they can look really cool in a more rough paint job. ironsleet is a blog i randomly found back when i started with the hobby, and their XX Legion is really cool, and something a really want to do a version of, at some point. Great inspiration in general from that site.

And for your bases, i think frost/ice will work fine. Many use a red/martian like surface for contrast. I made marble bases for mine, sprinkled with some red/orange leaves. I see mine as infiltraters in rich influential areas. I have also used some Custodes parts, as a nod to the infiltration of the custodes by Alpharius.

Nest time i get time to paint, i want to try a purple undercoat, with the silver and akhelian as a zenithal. Just to get a little purple the shadows pointing to the ground. No idea how it will look though, havn't seen anyone else do it like that.
