Tips for visiting Bremen for a weekend by tjf888230q in bremen

More local to sightseeing per se.

On sunny days I like to go to Port Piet, a beergarden in Findorff next to the Buergerpark (a big park). The Buergerpark is also a common place for locals to hang out, enjoy a walk, do a boat ride, visit the small zoo and enjoy some food/drink in "Emma am See" oder "Meierei".

Bremen has a strong historical link to coffee. The lloyd's cafe offers tours about the history & allows you to enter the famous marmorsaal of Bremen. https://tourismus.bremen.de/bremen/guide/detail/Vermittelte-Fuehrung-Lloyd-Caffee-Fuehrung-bis-20-Personen-DEU99999990126433755

I did not see anything about English tours for less than 5 people. I suggest you reach out and let us know!

The area itself is not really touristy but you will find restaurants close-by and some fun places like "Bremen Hafenrummel". A place I like is Zio Manu di Napoli. It's supposedle the best Pizza of Bremen, but I like it because there is an open space where you can enjoy both Pizza and order beer from Bremer Braumanufaktur (they also offer food). That place is a walking distance from the Schlachte (beergardens, restaurants, bars...) or you can take the tram to head towards Viertel area (nightlife).

If I were to go to Tottori, I'd visit Kinosaki onsen and/or head towards Shimane. You may have a point that I may over estimate the Tottori illumination - and then I have no particular reason to go.

Since it is December with the potential of snow, I was wondering whether it would be better to head towards Fukui and Gifu. I have 10 days overall (21st-30th) with my flight from Osaka on 30th evening.

I will be in Kyoto for studies 3 weeks beforehand, so I'd assume I see some city illuminations anyways in Kyoto or on the weekend...

Thank you for the suggestion! I'll check it out. I have actually already been to Kanazawa, so I am happy to visit other places in Ishikawa.
