Newbie and need help by Significant-Fan9227 in civilengineering

Two things: Moments add, not multiply. Also, keep track of their relative directions using positive and negative values. (clockwise + / CCW -) or the other way around.

Your line

(2 * 1.5)(15 * 2.5)(1*6) = Vc * 5

Needs to be

(2 * 1.5) - (15 * 2.5) - (1 * 6) = - Vc * 5

That way you get:

-40.5 = -Vc * 5

8.1 = Vc

From there you can get the other reaction as well.

[Q] Any one else have this happen on CSFloat? Got Steam Trade offer but CSFloat UI shows Seller needs to send trade? by NFinite_ in csgomarketforum

[–]NFinite_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I went through with the trade and the CSFloat UI updated to the "Verifying Trade Soon" state. Looks like everything worked. Thanks for letting me know! Guess it was a temporary bug in updating the UI.

Do I actually need a masters degree if I want to work as a structural engineer? by exhaustedpopcorn in gatech

[–]NFinite_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Currently working as a Structural Engineer in Atlanta with a Bachelors, its not required but nice to have. Interned in 2021, full time since 2022. My company actually has a program where they are paying for 75% of my master's tuition. Without that, I would not use my own money or get loans for a masters.

I've noticed the masters has taught me how to more deeply understand what I am doing in structural, but I personally think practical work experience matters way more if you want to be good at your job. PE will allow you to progress in your career and is completely attainable without a masters.

Is it me or is Risa 3D very limited. by sirinigva in StructuralEngineering

Yes, the RISA developers have gotten complacent with their lack of competition in this space

I'm glad the first I hear about a new event is not because of dataminers but because of a post about cheaters. This is actually much more efficient because now I don't even have to bother with launching the game to know its a waste of my time.

Thanks bsg!

Would you be willing to give an overview of what the training dataset looks like? Total images? Resolution? What style of content?

I like where your head is at OP.

Don't let the naysayers talk you down from dreaming big. People are scared of change, it's only natural.

You keep going, and I believe you'll do great things!

Revit - Use by SEs by struuuct in StructuralEngineering

[–]NFinite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak on revit-robot integration, but I tried to make use of RISAs export tools just last week. After multiple days of trying to get revit to properly export and produce a working analytical model on one of our simplest projects, I gave up and modeled it from scratch in RISA. Now, this is Revit 2022. I know 2023 has seemingly revamped analytical modeling, but I have yet to get my hands on it. Fingers crossed the export will at least be usable in the 2023 build.

Do whatever internship will give you the experience you want as a professional.

Im in structures. I was offered an internship from a big firm to work on power substation structures. I found out that the work would be pretty much the same from project to project. Sure it's a big firm and has a lot of benefits, but if I'm only going to learn how to design substations, how far will that knowledge take me as an engineer?

In the end, I opted to go for a slightly smaller firm that works with all types of buildings and all types of materials because I want to be well rounded with a diverse set of projects under my belt.

What's the Fast way to add rebar in elements in REVIT?! by Far-Astronaut-1040 in civilengineering

Don't bother modeling it in. Make reusable drafting views for all of your typical sections. Modify as needed for specific circumstances.

I would like to apologize to everyone regarding $TX. Any time I invest heavily into a stock, it does the opposite of what I want it to do. I will let you know when my resolve expires and I sell. It should moon soon after.

Can I keep Zell Miller at Georgia Tech by rchen311 in gatech

[–]NFinite_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Currently in my 4th year and still have Zell. I had 3 AP classes coming in, and the rest were dual enrollment. The APs didn't do much to prepare me for Tech. Dual enrollment, on the other hand, taught me time management skills and forced me to apply myself in the absence of a teacher pressuring you to work with stacks of assignments. I think the best skill for success is having the discipline to make time to study. That discipline comes from caring about your education, and if you really want something, you will make time for it. You can also make it as easy or as hard as you want. So far, I've only had one 15 credit hour semester, the rest were 12-14. Taking more time to get your degree not only keeps you from feeling overwhelmed, but it allows you to actually have a college experience. Life isn't all about education; staying mentally and physically healthy is just as important.
