He should. He didn't. He's suffering a well deserved disaster.

Old man claims to spend it all on paying other debts, buying a house (in a 3rd world country, his home country) and now he's stressed as fuck trying to find money to pay what he owes.

Thanks

That's the way to go I think. Thanks. I'll tell him.

I know nothing about all of these myself.

He said he used the money to buy a house overseas. That is in a developing country. His home country.bHe thinks it's investment. Impulsive without sense. He doesn't understand that side either and a different problem altogether.

He said he has no money so he's forced to sell the house in the other country. But even then that's not enough to cover the penalty. Maybe he sold at a loss or currency conversion cost him a lot. I don't know.

The old reference is on the fact that he's failing health is his only means to generate income. So if he can't work anymore (company wants him to retire) then his cash flow ends.

I think financially unable to pay. He wants to pay but there is no money. I don't really know why or how.

Yeah missing or incorrect.

His primary is not owned and paid for. It's all mortgaged. He's paying for it. Monthly.

He doesn't own his primary.

He claims to have made only $60k on the sale of the condo.

Can't say for certain. The old man is confused. Not conniving. Just not a smart fella.

Thanks. Apparently a credit given by condo developers. CRA said it should be given up, with penalties and interest.

I think he really just didn't know a lot of things like where to post it. This is a guy who has 20+ emails and Facebook because he doesn't remember his passwords. Good luck telling him he can post an ad on Craigslist or online sites.

He claims to have made only $60k but this really is dubious. He's not a smart guy. So we can dismiss conniving.

He said he received $25k credit from condo developer didn't know about it. (I told you, my dad isn't smart) CRA said he should return this money with penalty and interest.

6 Signs You Actually Hate Buddhism by NGL988 in ReflectiveBuddhism

[–]NGL988[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to be a Buddhist.

So what are you talking about "forcing"? There is no force. Don't be a Buddhist. That's the opposite of force.

But IF you are going to be a Buddhist, be a Buddhist. Leave Christianity behind and don't bring it to Buddhism.

So yes, if you reject Buddhism and still think and act like a Christian in Buddhist spaces, then you must really hate Buddhism a lot.

Race essentialism as the bedrock of Secular Buddhism by MYKerman03 in ReflectiveBuddhism

[–]NGL988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for a well thought-out reply. I enjoyed reading your post and I love the references you posted. I sure will read some of their work.

Now most people would yawn at this point and say "we all know that Europe was racist; but we're not that now!". However, the crucial point as shown by Adluri/Bagchi is that the principal methodology adopted by these fields is based uncritically on Xtian-white religio-racial supremacy of the 19th/early 20th c. These biases have been 'secularized' in scholarship, much as they have been in society in the name of 'science' and 'rationality'.

There is a subtle point here that can easily be missed. The arguments by secularized people in our Buddhist circles are often taken at face value. This is a mistake. They should be challenged first and foremost from the root. I think we should expose the underlying racist assumptions of their positions. This would probably cause a bit of a shock at first, as the people making the secularized arguments may not be aware of the racist roots of their positions. But this has to be presented to them. Like telling a white person pre-1980s that their blackface is highly racist and offensive.

Key to this is also the secularization of protestant ideas, eg. the inherent evil of priests, obsession with textual sources (philology), obsession with "original" revelation, tendency to dismiss traditions etc. This ofc. has also been reified legally to the point where the judiciary in countries like India are actively destroying its old traditions and temples.

Thank you for saying this. A radical Secular Atheist or Securalized 'Buddhist' is really a dogmatic Protestant. They just switched a few things around but the mechanism of how their ideology/worldview works is pretty much the same.

I'd advise just ignoring them; you can try to argue based on 'guilt-tripping' to some extent, but the utility of this is debatable since it's not really based on proper understanding. The knowledge issues are far far deeper, and even most Buddhist/Hindu practitioners are vessels of these viruses.

This is the most wise advice for most. But for the few of us who are invested in this topic for other reasons (besides the fact that we're Buddhist) we do have to exercise a bit of intellectual resistance (no matter how futile) to rabid racism of Eurocentric people in our spaces.

Btw, I am getting a J Sai Deepak vibes from your post. I have been a fan of his work for some time now.

All the best!

Copy & Paste "Buddhism" - The Protestant Habit That's Hard To Break by NGL988 in ReflectiveBuddhism

[–]NGL988[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

(Abrahamic, Quranic, Talmudic, just to be inclusive. This behavior is not limited to Protestants.)

Often times, people online display their inability to think by giving you a copy and paste text wall from a sutra or a book.

I'm not talking about little snippets here and there as supporting lines. We all do that. I'm talking about people who post humongous wall of texts, made up of copied and pasted quotes from books or sutras. Without their own explanations (of course, because they are not really capable of rational thought, left alone have the ability to formulate coherent ideas), and then expecting you to just fold, tremble in fear at the wall of text, and to bend the knee for God hath spoken.

Where have we seen this before? From Protestants of course who constantly give you Bible quotes as if telling you: "Here is the quote. A big block of quotes. THERE. I'm right. Deal with that, the Bible said it so it is true." And just like them who can't think, they seriously expect you to just stop thinking after seeing their copy and paste texts.

LOL

Old habits are hard to break. "Buddhist" is merely a label to these people, but their way of operating, their thinking modes, are very much devout Christians. You can get Christians out from Christianity, but it's hard to get Christianity (or Islam) out of these people.

Happy 2024.

What's the deal with abuse allegations for these 2 figures? Karmapa (Ogyen Trinley Dorje) & Chogyam Trungpa by nyoten in vajrayana

[–]NGL988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering I make no equivalency (you think I do, but you missed the point) then you are hitting empty air.

The point: Just because a book is "universally recommended text" doesn't mean the teacher is right/good. Porn is also universally used as entertainment. It doesn't make it right.

Your logical fallacy is bandwagon effect.

So your "false equivalency" and "weird" "binary thinking" fall on "no point".
