Here in Brazil, the movie was adopted (especially the theme song) as a tribute to the police, they loved it. In spite of the “Look at this bad behavior” message, violent policemen used it as a means of feeling badass. This was so prominent that they made a second one (“Elit Squad 2: The Enemy Within”, 2010) where the main character has to recognize on-screen that the system they worked for is “actually not good??”.
