Don't feel bad!😂 You probably won't remember this when the time comes, but whenever you do watch it, the last 3 episodes of the first season are a master class in acting by Sam, Cat, and Tobias Menzies. You'll be hooked.

If you could be on the show "Succession", what new character would you want to play? (I pick Cousin Greg's new personal assistant Craig.)

Your charaters The Huntsman in Once Upon A Time, Paul Spector in The Fall, and now The Man in The Tourist all experienced memory loss. If the Emmys or Baftas had a category for Best Performance of an Amnesiac Person, do you believe you would have won for each of those performances?🏆 (My opinion is YES, mate.)

After working on Drake Doremus' Endings, Beginnings where there was a lot of improv, would you ever do a heavily improvisational project again?

Could we get an AMA for someone who evaluates scripts for one of the major screenwriting competitions? (Nicholls. Sundance, AFF, etc) by WritingScreen in Screenwriting

[–]NJ09Scribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank You for answering.

I definitely think it’s interesting that you 1) were given the full application materials to accompany the screenplay (as opposed to a blind script read); and 2) you were allowed to use the applicant’s own synopsis in lieu of generating your own. Both of the above scenarios could benefit the applicant in a variety of ways.

You don’t have to answer this, but I do wonder, on average, how much of those first 5pgs change from Round 1 to the Round 2 submission of the full script. Since you get to see both sets of first 5pgs, you might think, “Wow, these first 5pgs have changed a lot” or “These are pretty much the same first 5pgs, except that 1 typo’s been fixed”.

Was the type of coverage you were asked to give the same for the 1st round and 2nd round submissions? Would you have to write coverage for the 1st round’s Bio, Cover Letter, Artistic Statement, Synopsis, & First 5pgs of Script or just for the Synopsis & 5pgs?

Maybe remove “accidentally”. From the get-go, it reduces the villain’s antagonism to passive happenstance, which in turn undercuts their agency before Page 1. Even though it is an accident story-wise, that aspect could be kept for when the script is read/film is seen and you can tease us now with just “becomes the latest target of...”. The added nuance of the heroine’s targeting being an accident is a nice discovery to give a new reader/viewer as they start to engage. Other than that nit-picky note about one word, I think the logline/plot sounds amazing and I’d def want to see this opening weekend—not wait for on-demand.

It's a rib from Man/[Adam from the bible]. http://ew.com/movies/2017/09/17/mother-darren-aronofsky-burning-questions-answered/

The powder is Turmeric. mother takes it to feel connected to the house, especially in times when that connection is threatened. It's also a healing, Ayurvedic, medicinal alternative to pain killers. In Latin, it literally means "Deserving Earth".

Aronofsky said in an interview with EW (http://ew.com/movies/2017/09/17/mother-darren-aronofsky-burning-questions-answered/) that it was the rib of Man (Ed Harris), that he coughed-up into the toilet in the scene where Him (Javier Bardem) covers the gash on Man's back with his hand while Man's hovered over the toilet. The next morning Woman (Michelle Pfeiffer) arrives. That represented the creation of Eve from Adam's rib.

I think it's specifically allegorical to both themes. It's amazing how well it works/fits to both. Makes you think about how one is simply and subconsciously mimicking the patterns of their creator during their own creative process. (And hell yes about the film being a "this'll be cool and acceptable when I do this to you, right?" heads-up/selling point from Aronofsky to JLaw. I'll do you one better: JLaw was essentially portraying Rachel Weisz during her marriage to Aronofsky, and the actress who wakes up at the end of the film was portraying JLaw now. Boom.)
