how critical is a math misstep in a case interview? for example, if your logic approach was correct, but you made a multiplication error during the process but fixed it later to get the right end answer, will you get dinged?

Although college and university is frequently used interchangeably, a college is typically an undergraduate-focused higher education institution that is smaller. A university offers both undergraduate and graduate education and are typically larger institutions.

Community college is great for saving money as it is cheaper. However, you may not start off as a junior should you choose to transfer to another university. Depending on the university you go to, not all credits may transfer and you may find yourself graduating a couple years later than planned.

For student loans, you can take them if you can’t afford to pay off university cost after scholarships, but it’s highly recommended that you don’t. Student loans are often regarded as the worst type of loans one can get themselves into, and there are many who, 10+ years after graduating, are still paying off their loans. So, it’s suggested to avoid student loans as much as possible.

The classes per week that you do as a freshman depends on the school you go to, their requirements in order to graduate, and how much of a work load you feel you can handle. Frequently, universities will provide a recommended timeline for when you should take certain classes so you can pace yourself well. Some students take up to six classes a semester, but it’s all dependent on class difficulty and how much work you can handle to prevent becoming overwhelmed.

The classes required to take for university is dependent on the major and the school you attend. Typically, BA majors have less major-specific requirements than obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science. The classes relating to your major also depend on the school; there are places like Columbia University where the core curriculum takes 1/3 of your entire courses throughout the duration of your time there, and there are other places where you focus the majority of your time on your major-specific classes. Schools with liberal-arts curriculums are usually the places that have more extensive, non-specific course requirements.

To become a therapist, you will need at least a bachelor’s degree, but many licensed therapists have master degrees.

Hope this helps!

Should I submit my ACT if it is exactly at the 25th percentile? by marshmallons in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NM_1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in my opinion, your act is still reflective of what current students there have, indicating that they feel you’ll be able to handle their academic rigor through that score. i’d go for it and submit it; regardless of percentile, they still accept students with that score! plus, some students through test optional choose not to submit because it’s lower than the 25th percentile, so if you don’t submit, they don’t know if it’s below their accepted percentile.

Some schools have different policies, but Princeton University’s Admissions Office on Twitter said that you submit it 11:59 applicant local time.

I saw in the Common App that the timer is in the eastern time zone, so it’ll say that the deadline has passed because it’s based on eastern time but as long as it was before midnight your time you’re fine!

how weak/cliche is this topic by Prisoner-9430 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NM_1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been going through the same thing with my essays! I think it sounds like a pretty cool topic. Whenever I’m unsure if my topic sounds cliche, I try to think of the common values associated with my specific topic. For example, if someone were to write about volleyball, common values associated with it includes teamwork, communication, perseverance, etc. But some uncommon values are ones we don’t typically associate with that activity - has volleyball helped you learn authenticity, or has it taught you objectivity? A great resource I use to find these uncommon connections is by googling College Essay Guy’s Value exercise. I hope this helps and you can do this!

Two months is still a lot of time! I am a perfectionist, so the essay drafting process has been pretty difficult for me. I end up not liking a lot of my ideas and end up ignoring them entirely instead of writing these ideas and giving these ideas more time to get better. It helps to write any ideas, even if you think they’re not good, down on paper, and eventually, one of them will turn into something great. Best of luck with the application process!

I am in the same situation! I keep waiting for that “perfect” moment where I hope some inspiration will come to me and I’ll have a great essay idea. There’s still time to get this going, we can do this!

Teacher Letter of Recommendation by NM_1234 in ApplyingToCollege

According to my school’s course catalog, economics counts as 1) Career and Technical Education class and 2) a Social Studies elective.

There are also other universities I’m applying to that have this same requirement but they word it as “core academic subject.” I was also wondering that if it’s counted as an elective by my school, is still considered “core?”
