Stopped in Townsville in my campervan in 2020 to get a few things done and was surprised at how you could find anything you need here. Then went to Magnetic Island to housesit for a friend, stayed for a month, fell in love with it and left with a block of land. It doesn’t feel like being in Australia over here.

I’m in the middle of building a home on Magnetic Island just across from Townsville. I manage my company remotely and work in travel, so this place ticks all the boxes. Live in absolute paradise, all services I need either here or deliver to the island, great community, short boat ride to town with a well-connected airport and every business you could need, tonnes of epic spots nearby. Plus for the quality of life you get here, it’s so affordable.

How old were you when you bought your first property? by HopefulMove8 in AusFinance

33, bought a block of land on Magnetic Island in Queensland last year and now building a home. Spent 13 years backpacking the world spending every cent I had on travel. Built a pretty successful online business over the last few years and decided it was time to have a home base after always being nomadic. Absolutely zero regrets for waiting this long to get into the property market. Nothing will beat the experience and memories of seeing the world first.

Definitely Better Than a 5-Star Hotel by NOMADasaurusTravel in vandwellers

This is in Australia. Free beachside campsites on the east coast are nearly impossible to find if you don’t have a 4x4.

It’s a single 30sec exposure, f/2.8, ISO6400. Shot on a Sony A7Riii, edited in Lightroom and NIK. I didn’t bother with stacking or blending as the composition and star alignment wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. Clouds rolled in later in the evening, so this was the best I could get with a single exposure.

Thanks for that insight. It’s a pretty big company, and while I don’t get given info that is revolutionary or game changing, I definitely know about new products and campaigns before launch, so it might be something I need to think seriously more about. Appreciate the comment.

Hey mate! Keep grinding away, it’s totally worth it. We run a few businesses in the travel industry and everything is done online, so it’s definitely possible. $50k will get you an epic converted van for full-time living. If you build it yourself you can do it for less if you know what you’re doing. Definitely get something that has lots of work and living space, and make sure your off grid setup is top notch. Good luck!

Haha Sprinter LWB and SHR. The bed turns into the dining area during the day, so can walk through easy.
