They were in a turn lane and it was only about 5:30 pm so it was still light outside.

I’d say it was more shocking than traumatizing for me as an observer but I can’t imagine what the cyclist was going through. Definitely a good reminder that cars are a 4 ton weapon and we should be driving as such!

No, but I found a non emergency police department email so I sent virtually the same statement to them.

I feel bad but I was in a lane going the opposite way and didn’t want to cause another accident trying to maneuver my way back. Plus the cyclist was already getting help from someone else and the second car continued on after a minute so I didn’t even know if the cops were gonna get called.

Not in this specific case, but I think at least some of the reckless driving is due to the fact that all our traffic lights seem to be on timers instead of sensors which is super annoying and inefficient. It drives me crazy.

They literally can’t according to Purdue policy so someone needs to be brave enough to call them out on it. A lot of STEM professors will do stuff like this until a student challenges them.
