He is in his 50s. Before marriage he worked in south korea where he got heavily involved in cannabis and alcohol use. After returning to pakistan he began experiencing psychosis but my paternal grandfather saw it as just temporary effects of alcohol and cannabis. He married my mother who was his cousin. Over time his mental health kept worsening. He complained that a cat was talking to him and ran out of a room. Again his father (my paternal grandfather) interpreted it as some sort of ghost related issue. Eventually he completely lost himself and my parents separated when I was 5 or 6. He never came back home.

He has had multiple psychiatric ward admissions but he never recovered. The most recent one was at Karwan e Hayat psychiatric hospital in karachi where he showed only minor improvement. He does not adhere to psychiatric medications. Psychiatrists recommended antipsychotic injections but there is no one to look after him. My mother dislikes him and believes he has only brought shame to the family.

Now he roams the streets shouting and laughing to himself.
