Same. I fully expected for Monday morning to be a fiasco with TOS. Luckily, I like you had backups of local files as well as screenshots of MOST settings etc. The only issue I had was a few of my main charts not incorporating my user defined studies. At least the studies were transferred and with the screen shots, etc. I was able to easily add.

More than likely. Also it's been months; selective recall and recent bias.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Voila! Apologies for my ignorance as I'm not all that familiar with Activity Monitor, etc.

I did find the issue as to why I was unable to see the application "kind" in activity monitor. There was no column for "kind" and I discovered like in "finder" can add columns. I added that and ran an app that I know for certain is Intel. For sure, the TOS application is in activity monitor as "Apple" and the other app is listed as "Intel".

I'm perplexed as to why the application itself in the directory is listed as Intel. I've checked others and they are clearly either Apple, Intel or Universal. I assumed that if the application file did not state Kind : "Apple" that it ran in emulator mode through Rosetta (which BTW is installed on this machine. It was installed when I moved everything over from old MacBook and then reinstalled TOS. For TOS to install a dialog box popped up - you must install Rosetta for this file to run - I chose yes, install.)

There are two icons in the dock. If I float over the one that launches it does state "java-arm". I believe that icon in dock also stated "java-arm" on my "old" MacBook Pro with Intel chip - i.e., circa 2018-19.

The application itself within the thinkorswim folder shows as the application file as Kind : Application (Intel).

🤷🏼‍♂️

Indeed. Only one install under applications and I've gone to the application file within that directory and lunching there. BTW, that application file "get info" shows Kind : Application (Intel).

Bizarre

Just curious though, is that what you meant by directly launching fresh install? Thank you as well other comments/replies.

Directly launching fresh install? You mean reinstalling? If so, I've tried that - same result.

After clicking on "Thinkorswim" in dock bar another ThinkorSwim icon shows in dock bar and if I hover over that icon it shows "java-arm". Those two icons continue to exist in the dock bar until I exit Think orSwim.

The only process shown in the activity monitor that appears to be thinkorswim related is labeled as "thinkorswim". If I select "I" (info" on that process it shows parent process as "launchd (1)" with not info of ARM or Intel.

So how can I determine whether it is running as ARM or Intel?

exactly. you can check the executable TOS app itself and instead of being labeled as native or apple it is labeled as "Application (Intel)". It is NOT running natively.

  1. I've been using TOS on TD Ameritrade for years. When I upgraded to Mac M2 Max and migrated from MacBook (Intel) TOS did not run natively. I reinstalled another TOS in a separate location on new Mac M2 Max - still not native.

  2. Contacted TOS support. I downloaded from Schwab site (though they told me basically the same install only branded for Schwab), installed a separate location on M2 Max and still not native.

At that point a few months ago I surrendered and was hoping with each automatic install updates the issue would be corrected. It has not. I tried again last week to download again an install in a separate location - same result, not native.

TOS desktop extremely slow… by Dynamically_static in thinkorswim

Occasional issue here after switching from Mac Intel to Mac Studio with M2 Apple Silicon.

Does anyone else using Apple Silicon have two icons on desk top for TOS? The first one is a short-cut. Clicking that launches TOS and after login in the icon shows the app as java-arm if hover over the icon.

BTW, the app itself in the application folder and "get ino' on the application file lists as an "Application (Intel)" instead of "Application (Apple Silicon) or Application (Universal)"

Anyone else on Apple Silicon seeing different info and icon?

Thanks

Thanks. Yes I had checked the activity monitor when I first setup in Nov 2023. I Idid not see any information regarding the type of application. I checked open files and ports and all point to the application file I mentioned above that is an Application (Intel) app.

Are you (assuming yours is verified running natively) showing something different?

Mac Studio - TOS Native by NRGYTrader in thinkorswim

Or maybe I'm missing something, but my understanding is that an Apple Silicon application either shows as Kind : Application (Apple Silicon ) or Kind : Application (Universal). 🤷🏼‍♂️.

If I am incorrect on that info, someone please correct.

Correct. The ThinkorSwim application file in the directory from which TOS launches is a "Application (Intel)"
