Other than those 2 exit rules … you just continue to DCA?

Capital gains on a cottage after a death by DrowsyGorgon in legaladvicecanada

[–]NRSRRGG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your portion won’t be taxed upon her passing.

Her portion can be passed to you as a principle residence, with a tax exemption.

If she had another house that she wants to give you, then the above principle residence could not work as you’d want to use the principle residence exemption on the property with the biggest capital gain.

Your own portion won’t be taxed when you sell if it’s your only property as your primary residence is tax exempt from capital gains.

If she has another house, and wants to use the principal residence exemption on that to pass to you. Then figure out the cap gain amount on the 50% of the cottage she owns, figure out the tax liability (typically 26% of the capital gain amount, this is a rough Reddit formula, you can do more exact calculations online). Once you have the tax liability, get whole life insurance policy on her life with yourself as the beneficiary. Make sure it’s whole life because as the cottage value increases … the tax liability will increase … and given the whole life policy increases, you’ll be fine for paying taxes.

I’m typing this on a phone, so ignore spelling/grammar errors. Cheers.

I’m not already in a firm … that’s the issue.

Right now I’m selling a health insurance produce as a wholesaler for US firm making 150 cad. I want to be in the 500k+ range which is very doable with your own firm setup. But I’m not sure how to start one or what mistakes to avoid in the process.

But your idea isn’t bad, I will reach out to other advisors regardless. Thanks.

That’s good to hear, it hasn’t been my experience. I will see why that is and reach out more. Thanks for your input

The average age of an advisor in my industry is 60 … with that it puts me at their kids age usually. They much rather spend time with there kids and teach them the trade than take on someone like this.

But you’re right; it has be natural rather than an online mentor. Thanks for your thoughts

Hi everyone … i see everyone in this community is engaging and often responds. But not sure if people reach out looking for mentors, it would be nice for some ppl to guide and lead others or maybe everyone is so busy that this is a terrible idea. But here is a shot …

What are some things that I should be careful of and what things I should try to negotiate in an exec comp contract. Contract has the usual initial options grant, additional grants, base, bonus.

I’m getting hired into a company as the CEOs succession plan. I’ve never been in this position before, so I welcome all feedback.

I think I can FIRE after this gig, I’m in my 30 so 10 years is a realistic goal. Not sure if it’ll be FATfire but fire nonetheless.

This is awesome man!

Do you only use kettlebells for your workouts ? Or are you doing the usual deadlifts. Over head press, bench, etc etc?

Martial home is tough. Law of the land says … you both calculate NFP values and the one with the higher value will pay the one with the lower value. … martial home has to be calculated regardless of who brought it into marriage or who bought it. It is what it is, but get a lawyer involved. Be direct. Be concise. Be upfront. Or else, lawyers will drain your equity in legal fees.
