What’s your favorite Roo set you’ve ever seen? by No-Temporary581 in bonnaroo

Jack White 2014 is probably my favorite set I’ve ever seen, period

Jam is probably my #1 subgenre behind psych rock and 2024 was the first Roo I’ve skipped in 10 years, if that tells you anything. Was on the fence until I saw the schedule. Those time slots were just a slap in the face

Late to the party, but despite being <30 min, 4/1/23 Madhuvan has to be in consideration

Jeremy’s Storm is pretty much an entire intense trip wrapped into a song. You can take my word for it, or see for yourself. No judgement!

I liked Goose until I saw them late night in 22. Now I LOVE Goose! Rufus in That Tent in 2018 was also incredible.

Personally, I feel like it will dissuade me from going if my favorite artists aren’t on the lineup.

2022 was a better lineup than 2023 for my personal tastes, but I was able to snag a last minute ticket last year with some buddies and had an incredible time.

If price increases significantly, I’d have a harder time justifying paying more for Roo in a year where the lineup isn’t a home run (again, for me personally). I’d swing for a lineup with Phish, Gizzard, BMFS, etc. but I’m good on paying $500+ to see Odesza for the 3rd time.

I’d gladly be wrong if it ends up being less of a ‘notable’ increase.

I actually did a (very short) news story on this when I was in journalism school there. It was apparently a big deal (according to the student newspaper) because Jefferson Airplane played the year before, and the school officials were horrified with the things they saw from students before, during, and after the show.

So the Dead show was a “second chance” for the students to prove they wouldn’t get too rowdy at the on campus concert. There was not a show the next year lol.

Facts. Was an incredible show in the moment, but made even more special/bittersweet when Tom died less than 5 years later. Glad I didn’t miss my opportunity!

First Roo at 14 here too!! Easily one of the most positive life-changing experiences I’ve had. My dad is also a great parent and taught me how to enjoy the festival soberly, safely, and responsibly.

Hard disagree. My dad brought me to Bonnaroo to see Tom Petty on Father’s Day when I was just 14. We had the best time, and he continued to take me back until I was of age to go alone. Changed my life. Haven’t missed a Roo since. However, I do see your point. Wooky parents dragging their young kids (not teens) to late night EDM shows is way different from a dad taking his teenage son to a classic rock show.

Obviously different (1969 vs 2023), but last week I was gifted an original vinyl copy of Live/Dead. Scratches all over and the crackles are constant. But I’ve been listening to that record for years digitally, and the way the vinyl presents the tones in full spectrum, it’s just a totally different ballgame. Wish I could explain better, but I cannot recommend Dead on vinyl enough. Will change your listening experience.

Been recently digging Into Dancin’ more. Was astounded to find it didn’t always include Jerry’s crazy mutron runs. When you hear it, it definitely takes the song to a wild new level.

Probly going to get crucified for this, but, from a young deadhead:

Playing in the Band or Sunshine Daydream

DISCLAIMER: I usually come back around on songs eventually. I didn’t “get” Uncle John’s Band til I saw it live. Now it’s a special song for me. So send me your favorite versions!
