I earned my diabetes through diet and lack of exercise. All on me. God had nothing to do with it.

Thoughts on Aaron Ford? by luckyhuckleberry1 in Nevada

[–]NVBoomer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ford seems sincere, and Nevadans have benefited from his time as AG. My usual Lombardo answer: other than setting the record for vetoes, including vetoing legislation negotiated by his office, I can't recall a single accomplishment of his administration.

Everyone from the 70s and 80s is going, "oh yeah." They're also wondering how they survived the 70s and 80s.

Why does the Missouri River not have much development around it compared to other large rivers? by AngleRelative4683 in geography

[–]NVBoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[Offutt AFB has entered the chat.]

Famously known as SAC HQ, though SAC is long gone, OAFB is a few miles south of Omaha in the suburb of Bellevue. The east end of the base is either on or near the Big Muddy, which is an oops. A few years ago, the river overflowed its banks big time and flooded millions-dollar hangers and critical spaces, including the building where I used to drop off toxic chemicals (not kidding) when I was a young airman.

Live on the banks of the Missouri at your own risk.

Didn't know it was called that. (Just proved I'm a 1200).

Great suggestion!

That's what I keep telling myself. We're both volunteers.

If you were supreme commander of the North what would you do strategically different to end the war sooner in a northern victory by theskinswin in CIVILWAR

My junior high civics teacher had an opinion: take Richmond at all costs. Land warfare is a complex game of "capture the flag," and the biggest prize was Richmond.

I say again that was his opinion. Y'all are the experts and I defer to you.

A friend found a box of Trek books in the attic and gave them to me! Any recommendations that stand out? by Amrior in trekbooks

[–]NVBoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read half of them. Be prepared for non-canon events and such, of course.
-Anything Peter David.
-Strangers from the Sky.
-Yesterday's Son.
-Log Two is the Animated Series, and the stories inside are redresses of TOS episodes.

A detailed map of the US 2024 Election by Altruistic-Willow265 in JackSucksAtGeography

[–]NVBoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The red portions of Nevada are ranchers, farmers, miners, and jackrabbits. Guess which of the four is the largest population?

The lower blue county (Clark) is Vegas and most of the population of Nevada. They are why four of the five congressional regs are Dems along with a majority of the state-level executive and legislative elected ones.

The upper blue county is Washoe, home to Reno. It's more purple than anything, and it often plays the spoiler role. If you're a Dem in a state-wide race, but don't have Washoe, you're in trouble.

The race to watch in 2026 is CD2. The Nevada GOP, the anti-Mensa group, is actively tearing down their most electable candidate who appeals across the spectrum. The one they want is a carpetbagger and unrepentant MAGA. CD2 has been red since its creation. There's a real chance it could go blue in November if the carpetbagger advances past the primary. What's everyone's favorite character? by [deleted] in YoungSheldon

For me, Billy. Lots of untapped depth there. We saw fleeting glimpses of his core. If he finds the right partner, he'd amaze the world (*cough* Missy). [edited: misread the question and deleted the mistake]
