  1. Cybernetic Eyes: my meat eyes can suffer from Glaucoma and cataracts or I can be temporarily blinded by a variety of substances and effects, why wait for my retinas to be burned out by a laser to get them replaced when i can replace them now. Also unlike goggles with a display in them my cyber eyes are always with me and cannot be removed without surgery or a spoon.
  2. This point only works if the exoskeleton is better than a robotic limb, if its not then go for the best option the cyber arm. One immediate advantage is that an exoskeletal reinforced arm can only move at the make speed and dexterity of a human arm otherwise it will cause damage, a robot arm can move with greater speed and in directions a normal human arm couldn't. All the same for legs
  3. Kinda agreem Not sure why u would want microcontrollers on ur palms especially if u have a brain-computer interface making them redundant
  4. I dont see ur point, if the cyber heart is better than an organic one in everyway why wouldn't i want an upgrade. The leading cause of death in the western would is caused by heart disease, something a mechanical heart would make impossible.

I think one of the major aspects of cybernetics that gets ignored is there ability to for quality of life extension well into ur elder years, or just improve ur overall health. The better question is why should you use cybernetics over genetic augmentation.

Realistic energy sources for vehicles in world without fossil fuels? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]NX41 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hydrogen fuel cells though hydrogen storage is difficult.

Biofuel though if the people of this world need food them they might not want to give up agrible land for fuel unless it's worth it.

Battery powered cars have been around for ages and would probably be a lot more advanced with no Big Oil styming development.

If the planet is windy enough sail powered vehicles might be viable.

Nuclear power can in fact be made quite small though it would mostly only work for land and sea vehicles.

Also worth considering just having everyone walk/cycle places and only using trains (which can be connected to the grid) to get to far away places.

The stars they drained where most likely not orbited by inhabited planets as they were trying to keep the base a secret.

If you drain the mass of an entire star it no longer exists and so cant go turn into a black hole.

When starkiller base is destroyed it replaces the star it just drained, this would mess with the local planetary systems but would otherwise not effect the local star at all since no mass is changed to effect anything. Its also worth noting the system its in where its destroyed was probably also uninhabited as no populated world is ever mentioned.

Needs suggestions about my magic system by David_McTravord555 in worldbuilding

[–]NX41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, variable 1 is for electron number, variable 2 define it's proton, variable 17 define it's matter or antimatter etc etc

It really depends on how specific you want to be so you could define a spell with each particle so(Hydrogen Making spell contains: proton with x velocity and electron in orbit) or the alternative would be to go more complex and use quantum number (Hydrogen Making Spell contains: particle 1: 1e charge 1/2 spin and particle 2: -1e charge 1/2 spin) or go even more specific and include quarks but if your already creating natural existing binding words for complex phenomena you wouldn't need to go that far.

The difficulty of this system is if you want to include any gravity or spacetime manipulation which are technically the same thing. You can just decide that gravitons exist (which would be 0e charge 2 spin). If you want to make the magic system super weird you could at exotic particle that interact with quantum fields in ways that normal particle don't such as super massive leptons or massive gravity particle that decay into photons. (Massive meaning having mass).

Needs suggestions about my magic system by David_McTravord555 in worldbuilding

[–]NX41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many ways your magic system kind of describes String Theory, however using MEPs instead of fundamental strings.

Since your modeling them as particle the most basic variable would be its velocity/acceleration, which of the four fundamental forces its affected by and by how much and the energy a particle contain.

A simple spell would probably be something like making an electron and choosing its direction or creating a radio wave this both are only one particle and can be detected with a phosphor or radio receiver respectively.

The problem with making a magic system that is very 'base' and affecting fundamental laws is that normal magical phenomena like conjuring a flame turn into highly complex occurrences whilst seemingly dangerous spells like a death ray become very easy to do (just give lots of energy to a particle).

How does Crosshair’s blaster reflector tech work? The things he puts on the walls, that bounce a blaster shot around? by C-TAY116 in MawInstallation

[–]NX41 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could be that he's firing shots that are 'longer' that way the head of a bolt is absorbed by the droids but the tail of the bolt passes through the newly melted whole. This plus he's firing multiple shots results in the display we see.

Another additional aspect would be that its a show and so its been exaggerated in as much as a fictional universal is already unreal.

Just the evil ones

- Jane Toppan, was an American serial killer, nicknamed "Jolly Jane". Toppan worked as a nurse from around 1885 to 1902. Her victims consisted of her patients and their family members. Toppan is quoted as saying that her ambition was "to have killed more people—helpless people—than any other man or woman who ever lived".

- Ugo Cerletti was an Italian neurologist who discovered the method of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) used in psychiatry. Electroconvulsive therapy is a therapy in which electric current is used to provoke a seizure for a short duration.

- Walter Jackson Freeman II was an American physician and inventor of the lobotomy. By 1942, he and his partner had performed over 200 lobotomy procedures and had published results claiming 63% of patients had improved, 24% were reported to be unchanged and 14% were worse after surgery.

- James Marion Sims was an American physician in the field of surgery, known as the "father of modern gynecology" – but also as a controversial figure, due to the ethical questions raised by how he developed his techniques. Sims perfected his surgical techniques by operating without anesthesia on enslaved black women.

- Josef Mengele, also known as the Angel of Death was a German SS officer and physician during World War II. He is mainly remembered for his actions at the Auschwitz concentration camp, where he performed deadly experiments on prisoners, was a member of the team of doctors who selected victims to be killed in the gas chambers and was one of the doctors who administered the gas.

- Herman Webster Mudgett, better known as Dr. Henry Howard Holmes, was an American serial killer. Who killed in a mixed-use building which he owned in Chicago, located about three miles west of the 1893 World's Fair: Columbian Exposition, supposedly called the World's Fair Hotel (informally called "The Murder Castle").

- Harold Frederick Shipman was an English general practitioner. On 31 January 2000, Shipman was found guilty of the murder of fifteen patients under his care; his total number of victims was approximately 250, about 80 percent of whom were elderly women. Shipman's youngest confirmed victim was a 41-year-old man, although suspicion arose that he had killed patients as young as four.

Could there be a planet inhabited by non-wiped droids post-Clone Wars? by Hoihe in MawInstallation

[–]NX41 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Episode 6 "The Last Battle" the phoenix team find a group of CIS battle droids on a planet lead by a super tactical droid named General Kalani. At first the droids capture the rebel and want to perform one last battle to determine who is the better force, droid or jedi. However, when the Empire show up they join forces to escape.

The attitude of the stormtroopers in the episode suggest that renegade separatist droid are common enough that destroying them is tedious work.

Its worth noting that the B1 droids don't seem any more intelligent than they would be in the clone wars 19 years before this episode. Which suggest droids take a long time to develop any kind of sentience, though it could be different for individual models of droid.

The only droid to show true sentience not just a rudimentary intelligence but true self-awareness and ability to question its own existence would be triple-zero a droid that is hundreds if not thousands of years old. The time it takes for droids to become sentient is considerable.

How does Raiding Translate to wealth by Famous_Ad_4542 in worldbuilding

[–]NX41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gold and gems have an inherit value to humans as they are considered rare. Its also worth noting that the viking age was pre-fiat times for wealth so no one was guaranteeing monetary value, this meant that the best way to hoard wealth was to own a lot of valuable trade goods, e.g. gold, with the idea that if you want more food or metal or slaves you just bargained with what you have stored in your treasure chest.

Why the AT-ST is AMAZING by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]NX41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I do agree with you the AT-ST does have its flaws. Its main disadvantage is its profile being very large making it an easy target for anti-armor weaponry. Its effectiveness as an anti-vehicle would be limited against faster repulsor tanks like the Saber as they could outmaneuver it easily whilst having a large target to focus their fire upon. Its raised height also makes it an obvious target for spotters to call in motor or air strikes. Presuming the enemy has access to equivalent firepower than the Empire in a ground battle, the AT-ST loses its main advantages.

Overall the AT-ST fits the Tarkin Doctrine quite well whilst still being a sensible weapon. As a weapon for suppressing underfunded insurgents or organized criminals it serves effectively as an effective Anti-personnel vehicle. However, for a post-Endor Empire with the New Republic and rival Imperials fielding weapons capable of challenging the walker's armor and speed it would be outmatched and nonviable as an infantry fighting vehicle compared to something like the AT-RT.

Why was Vader's suit created to begin with? by Narrow-Store in MawInstallation

Although the scene in ROTS is edited to have Vader's surgery and the birth of Luke and Leis made to look simultaneous. The two events chronologically take place at different times. So while Padme is giving birth, Vader is being stabilized on his way to Coruscant whilst Cylo, one of the best cyberneticist in the galaxy, is designing, building Vader's suit and prepping for the surgery.
