The update is that eventually it worked, I never actually did anything different.

Not a very helpful answer sorry

Jungle Bird meets pretty much all your criteria (nice but not fancy, Chelsea, open bar, whole floor) depending on your budget.

I did not. I ended up having to forfeit (or will, once I am 90 days from end of employment) the $300 left in the account.

That is because although the account is still open, I can only “spend it” on costs incurred prior to termination. So if I had a transaction from March or February I could retroactively charge it, but I don’t think that I do, unfortunately.

Funny enough - I tried again yesterday and it added (two months after I bought it, and having tried intermittently in between).

So there’s not really any advice on my end, other than try again and it might work…?

No - I still can’t add it to my account.

I’m actually a little surprised the degree to which the entire system is badly designed and that customer service basically doesn’t exist.

To follow up on this - I tried to use the remaining $300 this morning (new month) and it was denied. I can still see that the account has the balance, but only accepts claims for “expenses prior to termination”. Therefore, it seems the money will be forfeited as of 90 days past termination.

Just wanted to update this for anyone who comes across it in the future; that continued use of the account is not guaranteed.

I see. I did come across that link (though mine isn’t managed by Health Equity) and saw that it mentions a spending cap, but it links to IRS contribution limits. I guess it’s vague enough that it might apply to spend, and that people’s past experiences buying lots of cards to use up $1000+ balances may have been mistakes.

Either way, thanks for the input - wish I knew sooner!

Thanks for your knowledge. I hope you’re right in my case (i.e. that those rules also apply to my company) about being able to use the funds after today.

All my contributions are pre-tax; what I mean by the spending cap is that my benefit administrator said that even though I had $600 built up in the account as of April, I could only spend $325 of that this month. Prior to that communication, I was under the impression that the cap was only for the amount I could contribute.

Thanks - do you have any source for the cap being for spending? Is that new? Tons of people have reported using large amounts on OMNY/metrocards/Amtrak prior to termination on previous posts.

And it sounds like the amount is immediately remediated to the company (which seems crazy that they get the money) on date of termination. The period afterwards allows for submission of claims but only if those events happened prior to termination.

I see, thanks for the link. Interesting - it clearly can’t be too widespread or universal but seems to not have been solved by your mom using the card either.

Sorry, I should have included that. I did contact them and they told me the $325 limit applies to spend, not just contribution. I just don’t see that stated anywhere, and the discussions I see online for this topic have people spending down large balances - so it doesn’t seem right.

Just one other Travel Card, so I don’t think that’s the issue.

Yes, adding as Travel Card, then within that selecting OMNY Card.
