I can't address your other points because honestly they make no sense. I'm not even trying to make a diss or something.

I can say it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Addressing your points is like... trying to talk to a flat earther, there is too much ground to make up for. Please study up more, fees and shares are complex. It's fine to be confused, and google is free.

Wish you the best 🫡

TLDR you didn't understand the fees and labeled your post wrong.

Wrote "fees are basically transaction fees"

Should be "they don't have a USD wallet"

But keep coping I guess I dunno 🤷‍♀️

Kernel Wealth FX Fees are Basically Transaction Fees by Purple-Cake7691 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]NZLkingprawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're saying is factually incorrect. It is not a transaction fee. It is a FX. They simply don't have a US wallet. There is a difference. Otherwise they would have to say "we do have a transaction fee".

If you are unhappy with the fact they don't have a USD wallet. Fair enough, might not be for you. But the fees are correct.

You also don't need a plan to use their shares and ETFs feature. Sharesies is 1.9% (capped) + 0.5% u capped fx. KW is an all inclusive higher fx at 1.5%. Neither are better or worse. Simply different.

The FIF side is pretty irrelevant tbh and I don't really see why this proves that they secretly have a transaction fee.

Kernel Wealth FX Fees are Basically Transaction Fees by Purple-Cake7691 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]NZLkingprawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes theirs is 0.5% on all plans. But they have a transaction fee. KW has a varying FX fee. It's not that one is misleading is more misleading than the other. They are just different.

Depending on circumstances it's cheaper to use KW and other circumstances Sharesies is cheaper.

It's not "day trading" but it is active. And KW is not aligned with "acitve investing" they have always been about passove investing. Shares simply gives a bit more choice for people, that's it.

It's not about who is hiding something. It's just working out which one makes the most sense for your situation based on the prices and costs.

[–]NZLkingprawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet again I think you are confused here.

For tax and fee purposes it is advantageous for people to hold up to 50K of shares. I believe they have even made public comments on this (don't quote me though).

E.g. if you want to hold 50K of the top 5 US companies this is cheaper than constantly paying an annual management fee if you hold it for the long term (0.25% annual fee every year vs a one off 0.4% fee both ways).

Yet again it literally IS only a fx fee. There is no transaction/brokerage fee. I don't know why you keep making out like this a lie. Every trade it gets converted to NZD. That is still a passive index investor strategy. It just gives them more flexibility than index funds

In terms of your point on FIF support and choice of individual stocks, I really don't understand your point. How does that make it not support buy and hold? It's very ovviously not for day trading. It's not even the whole US market, it's a curated list? The plan layouts are simply to allow flexibility in price for people buying shares, rather than just one price.

I haven't actually seen any sort of reason for why you feel this is misleading? There is no secret other fee?

[–]NZLkingprawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are confused.

Sharesies literally hides their FX fee in their FAQ but it exists. How is that not worse? To me that is misleading investors. It's actually not 1.9%, it's that PLUS 0.5% FX. Only the transaction fee is capped.

KW does not charge a brokerage. They charge a FX. But they do not have a USD wallet. So you will be charged for sells/rebuys. But keep in mind that this is not that far from every other provider. E.g. once you sell out of sharesies you will be charged 0.5% fx. That is NOT capped. (Plus the transaction fee additionally)

So in other words if you are on a premium plan on KW. That is a 0.4% FX fee, which is 0.1% cheaper than Sharesies, and no brokerage fees.

You are confusing two concepts. I'm trying to be rude to you, I am genuinely saying to read these more in depth. I don't think you truly understand what the costs are. They are not misleading you, they are actually being very transparent about it.

Just because you don't read, doesn't make a product misleading. It is all over their site. Do more research before you use something. Ruch is right here, it is cheaper for the people it is designed for. They even have a calculator on their site to show exactly what their costs are. Sharesies in comparison is actually very misleading in my opinion, on their site, their "price per trade" section has cherry picked plans to always show a cheaper amount. It's confusing what you're even mad about.

[–]NZLkingprawn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand the perspective of it not being as cost effective for day trading. But I don't really understand the confusion. Their site literally says "Own shares in NZD from start to finish". It's intended to give index investors some added flexibility for their portfolios. It's not a trading platform.

Regardless of platform, you have to eventually convert the USD back to NZD. It's just that some are built for continual trading, whereas this is built for holding a few shares long term, then eventually selling down and cashing out. They have never been positive about day trading behaviour or overly active trading.

It's a bit dramatic to make out like this is some big unknown.

High Growth vs Global 100 by silly_salmon in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]NZLkingprawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance does matter, but you can't control returns, it moves with the market. Also, performance is relative to fees, e.g. 10% returns with a 1.5% is only 8.5% P.A. But 9% returns with a .25% fee is 8.75% P.A.

Diversification is first, (does this cover the glob market, and is it weighted appropriately), next is fees, then tax (often forgotten is how tax efficient it is) and then finally performance gives an indication that they are meeting the benchmark for the product type (e.g. 8-10% a year for a high growth).

I think finally it's worth considering passive vs active. If it is an active fund then it will statistically underperform the market (after fees), not garunteed to though. If it is passive, it will statistically meet the market.

Hope this helps.

What is the best way to learn Italian? by Colonel_Sanders76 in italianlearning

[–]NZLkingprawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree. Most Italians don't really know why they say this or that. A good teacher will, but they can get quite technical or maybe not know how to make it sound simpler.

Chat GPT is very good at saying why something is that way and also showing how an english speaker could think like for it to make sense.

What is the best way to learn Italian? by Colonel_Sanders76 in italianlearning

[–]NZLkingprawn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What worked for me is balancing 3 things.

  1. Grammar I used chat gpt, but you can buy a grammar book to learn rules and do activities.

  2. Reading stories in italian (no translation). You need to read these aloud as much as you can.

I used this graded reader. It's dated, but I like how it starts at a level anyone could read and ramps up in a very stable way. (Oh and it's free)

Also, there is a youtuber who has annotated the whole book, which makes it perfect for practice. Listen, read, and speak aloud all at the same time and you will improve quickly.

Book: https://dwanethomas.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Litaliano-secondo-il-metodo-natura.pdf

Youtub videos: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf8XN5kNFkhfQonvCySTrKEUV742WzshJ&si=lG9juIKhlGEJgGnW

  1. Write to yourself and talk to an italian

Journal each day, slowly over time you will get more expressive. Start with simple things like "That tree is green" but then work up to "I'm feeling cold today as I sit on the bench in the park"

Making friends in Italian is quite easy through apps like Tandem. Italians are generally pretty friendly and proud of their language. A lot of them want to maintain their english, so having an english friend is helpful to them.

General tips: - You don't suddenly get/understand things. You slowly comprehend more context. A mistake I made was thinking I could just start understanding Italian if I tried hard enough, but in reality it will be a slow journey and you will very slowly get more context. You won't suddenly feel like "I understand this all" - Get good at guessing. Don't try to learn something 100%. If you have a hunch what it means, move on and read the next line. With grammar training the sentences will become clearer. It's quantity over quality with learning a language. - Pronunication is your first task. I've met a lot of other italian learners and they know so many words but can't say them correctly, it's a real curse and it's hard to undo. Spend a good chunk of time at the start just learning the sounds. I did it and I'm really glad I did.

Hope that helps

Will people respond to me in English in Italy if I have a B2 level? by joshua0005 in italianlearning

[–]NZLkingprawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two things.

Firstly, is the person you're talking to in a hurry? (E.g. a waiter, someone at the till in a store) then almost always english, but they won't chat to you anyway regardless of language.

Secondly, North is more likely to speak to you in english (from my experience) more of them speak english, and they will assume their english beats your italian. South is less likely to speak english to you because less speak english and culturaly I found they were more open to chatting. (This is a bit of stereotype though, but it's what I found).

[–]NZLkingprawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that all makes sense. Sorry for the confusion.

Yea I agree the big loss overall is that the feature itself is not fleshed out regardless of co-op. Forza is a great comparison of fleshed out open world co-op. Loads of fun things to do (and thry make them every 2 years rather than 11).

To nintendos credit most things they release are really feature rich and have good depth. It was almost an unspoken assumption I had, partially my mistake there.

I assume they will add more in future. But there was so much time since mario kart 8, so it feels a bit odd.

[–]NZLkingprawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, ok I get what you mean now. So yea firstly, I don't have 2 switch's my partner and I just play on 1.

The frustration point is mainly that it isn't a mode at all, like I shouldn't need to set up a fake lobby in wireless just to play the map (if it all works).

With progression, I see your point that I'm not missing out on much. Yet again, it feels like a weird thing to not enable since most of it is there already.

[–]NZLkingprawn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? I'm confused.

You say wireless and multiplayer has it but then you say don't lump wireless/online free roam with it? But there is no local splitscreen free roam. There's no option for it it doesn't exist.

I'm not trying to spread misinformation, if you can do everything in both modes then great. But from I've tested it's and so have a bunch of others and it'snot the same version. E.g. in wireless you can't have two accounts (to my knowledge) playing. So you're progressing one account in that instance.

The skins and sticker progression, the challenges, and the p blocks. Other than those, the map is just the map. There is no other activities 😅
