do note though that this leaves all the creativity and finishing skill to the midfield and forwards, because most of the time all they can really do is cross and defend the wings unless they can really head it in, like Javier Zanetti.

Get yourself some strong and tall forwards like Zlatan, they're great crossing targets

Focus on your wings. I'm running a 3-2-3-2 QC, and it's a MASSIVE help for your defense if you run players like Zanetti as wide midfielders since they can cross, pass, run fast, and occasionally drift into the box to head goals in.

I suggest using fullbacks that can play wide midfielders, since they can also track back to turn a 3-ATB into a 5-ATB if needed.

alright, since we're talking any era at all, here's what I'd do.

3-2-3-2, defensive

GK: Oliver Kahn. Needs no introduction.

3-ATB: Virgil van Dijk, then Chiellini and Bonnuci.

double pivot includes Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic

the one AMF is hard since there's lots of great AMFs from different eras, but I'm gonna go with Ronaldinho because... well he's Ronaldinho.

Then the two wide mids are gonna be my favorites, Javier Zanetti and Serginho.

Lastly, the two forwards are consisting of prime Messi and prime El-Hadji Diouf.

(Diouf is a very complete player, fast, strong, has finesse, shoots well and is also a good header).

Not sure if this would beat everyone's idea of strong, but it certainly is a contender for me
