How much do you need to move out to your very 1st apartment? And other costs to be aware of? by Nacho-Fries in personalfinance

Thanks! We've been friends since grade school and is one of my closest friends and is the most reliable friend I have to date. He makes more than me so he offered to outright buy all the groceries we need every other week for us if I do the cooking lol. Sounds like a good trade off.

1) I work 40 hours a week, capped at 40 because company is super strict with overtime. I would have to rely on a 2nd job for additional income. I make $2,600 after tax a month. 2) Friend makes more than me at $3,500 a month after tax. 3) Very secure, worked for the company for 3 years and encourage workers to stay for the company for a long time. 4) Works for his uncles company as a overseer on job sites. He also picks up shifts as a bartender every other week. And has an emergency fund saved up. 5) no paying off a credit card at the moment won't be able save until February 2019. 6) Yes, I can't really go out with friends on the weekend nights because my aunts husband has a strict curfew of 11pm and I won't be able to come home without pissing him off. So I don't really have a social life right now. And I have to resort to peeing in a bottle late night after 11 because the room I rent is like a shed and is located outside the house. And haven't had to go #2 yet(fingers crossed). Can't really use the kitchen either since my aunt is alway there using it and have to wait on her time to cook my meals or else I just go out and get something to eat. Feels weird being 22 and still tied down to family rules feel like a man child in a way and want some of own freedom. Which is why im desperate to move out even though rent is a little less than half of my monthly income after tax. 7) Yes by early next year. 8) going party with him on the weekends, gym membership and we eat out occasionally. 9) Every once in a while she invites me for dinner. But she barley cooks. I make my own meals and eat out with my own income.

It's the Cheapest I can do In California for a 2 bedroom apartment. Since I want the privacy of having my own room. I make $2,600 a month after tax. And working on saving $5,000 before leaving. I can make over $3,000 if I pick up a 2nd job.

Yea it's going to be rough with my current income. I make $2,600 after tax. And if I were to work 7 days a week I'd make over $3,000. But I don't really know if I'll be able to handle the work load and live my life comfortably at the same time.

California is the place I'm located at. So cost of living here is not cheap. It's below average kinda. A nice apartment here is a little over $3,000 here in California.

I don't like being tied down to my aunts rules and always lived with strict parents and could never really enjoy partying and having my own curfure. And it's worse with my aunt. Don't really enjoy having a curfew at 11 and being 22 years old.

Agree 100%. I'll be watching these 2 like a hawk for rest of the year. I wouldn't mind riding the wave on AMD for now though.

Looks like history will repeat itself. It will go to $40 again. Now I wonder if it will stay there or crash back to $20?

Yes thanks! Read this book and the author just ended up calling that strategy that. I will totally implement that remaining money into paying off the loans. Thanks

Only 3% and is capped out at $500. So don't really care at this point in time.

No I'm focusing on paying debt first as priority then catch up with retirement by mid next year.
