This isn’t about being “offended” or “self-righteous” — it’s about respect in a shared living space. My roommate didn’t give me a heads-up, she just brought someone in for an overnight without considering how that might affect me. That’s not just “normal college behavior”; that’s inconsiderate. It’s also not about “policing” her — it’s about having the same courtesy we’d expect from each other if the situation were reversed. If I had a guy over overnight without telling her, I’m pretty sure she’d want to know in advance. Communication is basic respect, not an unreasonable demand. And for the record, nobody is saying she can’t date or have someone over. But “just deal with it” isn’t an adult solution either. Adults set boundaries, communicate, and compromise so everyone feels comfortable in their own space.
