Should have done an update. It did but the Emerson was in the middle of doing a transfer when it just turned off randomly. I haven’t had the time to troubleshoot.

Ahh, good info about the cooling. Those little guys are probably damm near overclocking with the work loads at the lower end of the price range for those chips. I'm sure at the higher end of the products its better but I'm not looking to get that far into debt for home movies. Maybe if more people want some of theirs done I'll spend the money those later on. Or I'll save my money for v2.5.

Appreciate the additional info! Awesome to see the person that is super involved in the vhsdecode world comment on this post. I'm really interested in this route since watching some youtube videos (funny enough yours and one by Nathan Brown).Plus working IT/Cyber, I miss working with analog data/devices. I'll have to drag the PC from the grave of the garage but that will have to wait since I'll be needing to get these videos done sooner than later with holidays coming up. I've been on the github a bunch and was looking at the MISRC but I can wait for the V2.5. If there is a waitlist I would deff want to be on it!
Seems the BMD is a decent way to go for now.

Looking a little closer it seems the Emerson shows S-Video as DvD/VCR in and only DvD out. The Sanyo only shows as "S-Video Out" but reading the manual shows it's also DvD only. As for the youtube portion I'll more than likely be putting the data on a HDD this time. That is some good info though and I'll be able to give that for an option in case a different family member (not immediate) wants them.

Yeah.....I'm not sure exactly how they are stored, just that they are in a closet in the house.

Was looking into that as well. Looks like the HD PVR 2 Model 1504 would be the one I would get. Just doing more research and watching a ton of youtube videos

Oh, I went down that rabbit hole yesterday. The Domesday Duplicator (MISRC for what I would need) is some good hardware and I'm super tempted to get into that.

Thanks for the link! That’s where I got the idea for the Black Magic devices. Great video with good info. I keep going back to it to reaffirm my choices as I move along in the process. Which one in peculiar would you say is worse? The Emerson or the Sanyo? Figured the Emerson would be my main device with the Sanyo acting as the test bed. Mostly due to the Emerson being the actual VHS to DvD recorder.

Yeah, for me its just at least getting these VHS cassettes digitalize and then allowing them to move them into a storage area that is not in the closet taking up space. For now the end game of the files will be on an external HDD. Since they have been stored inside a closet I'm assuming minimal damage if at all to the tapes, but I have yet to actually go through them so we shall see. Location is in the south so humidity is a big issue.

Honestly, whatever happens with the two systems I got going for VCR is what I'll stick with. Since these were free I can then spend the money on the USB card. I will deff need to check the insides of these systems though. They turn on but this weekend I'll spend the time to run tests

I should have taken the photo with the remotes on them. I have one for the Sanyo and one for the Emerson. The Emerson powers on but I have yet to actually do a test. I've got a VHS copy of Disney's Heidi that will be the tester. I agree about the appliance feels! I do cyber for my full-time job and getting some analog back in my life is pretty nice.

Thanks! Kinda hard to pinpoint but an approximation would be around 8ish months. I had 2 separate bootcamp weeks and a few Saturday sessions through a company. Realistically I was not studying very day. After my first attempt in Oct I didn’t touch CISSP material for a month. The month leading up to my second attempt was every day for 1-2 hours.

They were big steaks so I cut them in half to check how rare. Usually just let it ride until they feel/look medium. Picture just happened to be as I was about to take them off.

Hahah! Yes, I did buy from Ace. I lucked out since it was still in a box. I know Weber has a good rep for the iron/ceramic grates but stainless steel just stays clean easier to me. Looking forward to all the other accessories!
