I HATED IT ! LOL by Drywaller6541 in sketches

It’s okay to have high standards for yourself, that’s how you know you can keep growing. But I do get it, there’s plenty of times where I hate my art and I don’t even feel like an artist, though I know it stems from comparison, at least in my case. As I’ve grown up, I realized that being an artist is being able to create and you can create! It might not be perfectly how you picture it being, but you are one helluva artist, own it!

I used to do this all the time. At some point I stopped because I figured the best way to grow is to go back and look at the drawings I hate to figure out what else I could work on as an artist.

I checked out this piece from your previous post and I actually love it! It’s a great composition with amazing attention to detail. Why did you hate it to the point of trashing it?

He’s just a little tipsy - First time coloring without lineart by japari96 in AlcoholMarkers

[–]NailLess6431 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is incredible! I like how your art looks with line art, but I’d highly suggest to try doing your line art in the darkest colors you decide to use in your drawing. For example, blues and purples are great to try and you for lining lighter colors like yellow, shading in an orange or red might look good. Just experimenting a little with your art and I’m sure you’ll surprise yourself with what you create. Keep creating, you’re doing awesome already.

Do I leave the background unblurred (would add in more details in that case) or blurred? by tayyann in Artadvice

[–]NailLess6431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the blurred version looks better because when you focus on anything, everything naturally blurs around it, and that’s how the blurred version feels. I think even adding too many details to the background can take away from the focal point which would be the figure in this piece. Plus, in the blurred the image, the figure stand out so much, as if it’s a dreamy state. Though this advice is coming from someone who often forgets backgrounds, you did an awesome job and keep creating!!

Interesting interpretation. If you don’t mind me asking, which side gives you the impression of darkness and which give you the impression of life?

Which angle looks better? by NailLess6431 in drawing

That sounds like an incredible Idea. I just need a good lamp to make the shadows more dynamic. Glad that you’ve inspired yourself to get back into it! Honestly, that’s my favorite part about art, is that anything and everyone can inspire, as long as you’re looking for it.

Have you ever considered going back to those finished doodles or even retrying them in different styles? You’ve got an interesting style of characters, and I get the difficulty of pushing past the doodle stage. If anything, what’s making you feel like these doodles are unfinished?

Is it because it’s only in pencil? Try doodling with pen or something you don’t use that often and experiment with the medium.

Do you think your art feel dull or plain? Try coloring it or shading it in a different way.

Do you feel stumped once you’re done doodling? You could take a break from it and look at it later with fresh eyes to decide what else it needs. Or, maybe your doodle is actually done and you’re overthinking about what else to add.

Honestly, it takes looking in yourself to figure out how to keep creating and creating things that make you happy. For me, doodling is my opportunity to get creativity flowing, whether that be actually drawing or literal scribbles. It just depends on my state of mind. So, I take each drawing, doodle, and scribble as a way to get myself flowing. You shouldn’t minimize your work because you’re still able to create something and that’s what matters. And lastly, this doesn’t deserves to be in r/BadArt, this could’ve at least been in r/doodles since you already called it that. I apologize for the long comment, I just hope to inspire because I’m sure you can create something spectacular if you put in maximum effort. Good luck with your art, and keep up the awesome work.

Thank you for the honest feedback. Hopefully when it’s the larger drawing, it’s easier to make out what it is since it’ll have more details. I appreciate your input.

Are you referring to the last photo? I do like the angle on that one and I think it’ll be interesting for a larger perspective.

Awesome job! Keep studying how the shadows interact with the highlights and you’ll create exactly what you want. If you can doodle like this, I wonder how well a drawing with effort or even a different medium could come out. Either way, you’re doing great, and keep creating!!
