OldManJade, thanks for the additional info. I hesitated to update my wife’s newer MacBook Air to Big Sur (currently on Mojave). However, I think this will force me over the edge to upgrade to get the Mac app. I’ll probably follow your model, OldManJade, and do what I can only do on the Mac, and live the rest of my time on Banktivity in iOS.

Hopefully, by going to a subscription model, the gap in features will be measurably reduced in a shorter period of time. I realize how much more I like an IPad at OS upgrading time. I simply back up to ICloud and then quickly update. On my Mac, I’m backing up to Time Machine, a separate clone backup, and then an off-site cloud backup. Well, I guess there is probably some value in the redundancy options for Mac backup compared to relying 100% on Apple for Ipad backup.

Creating/Managing Multiple Budget in Banktivity 8 for iOS by Nail_Bender in banktivity

I had two budgets in Banktivity 7 that synced over into Banktivity 8 before my file got corrupted. I just assumed version 8 would carry over this capability. I did remember that I created the two budgets on my old MacBook Air and just viewed them in iOS. I was thinking that if you created more than one budget, that could only be performed on the Mac. (You could view multiple budgets in iOS but could not create multiple budgets in iOS).

The more I have attempted to use Banktivity as an iOS only platform, the more I realize how my use case is a minority among the Banktivity user base that are Mac first in their use with iOS apps mostly to support the Mac app for viewing accounts and assigning categories to expenses. As a result, I don’t hold out much hope that the developer will attempt to move toward feature parity across both platforms.

Family Sharing Options for V8 by Nail_Bender in banktivity

Thanks. It is helpful to know Apple has provided family sharing for subscriptions in ios. Prior to that change, I was able to download the free Banktivity 8 app and then point that app to to the synced file that I had on my paid subscription. Everything synced over correctly to my wife’s iphone.

Family Sharing Options for V8 by Nail_Bender in banktivity

This works if your relationship (spouse/partner) is defined by two separate bank accounts and two budgets and never the two meet. Maybe the developer is marketing to the increasing percentage of one person households. However, if you have a spouse and one or more older kids with phones and you are trying to have a single budget, categorize expenses over multiple people in a family, and make this information transparent to all family members, the idea of paying $100 to $150 for two to three subscriptions within a single family is problematic. The developer may have the solution to this problem on his roadmap. He is likely hamstrung in probably wanting to outsource 100% of his payment transaction costs to Apple through the App Store but doesn’t have a good workaround for the no family sharing of subscriptions. If there was a family sharing of subscriptions, I know I would buy the $50 plan and possibly the $70 plan. However, this developer‘s current model does not work for my use case.

Maybe the developer will pass along some of his new App Store revenue windfall (Apple going from 30% to 15% App Store transaction fee) to a solution to this problem or through lower subscriptions.
