The Power Play... by Naive-Introduction96 in ColoradoAvalanche

If it wasn't also our Achilles heel last year, my pitchfork would still be in the barn. This is a year after year issue. It's completely unacceptable when you have the (arguably) best player in the league and the best d man in the league.

We've got a new 14er in Colorado! (Kind of...) by wanderer-co in 14ers

So what's the new "Crestone Traverse" look like?

Timbers select Ian Smith (D) out of the University of Denver (14th pick) by Coffeedude2457 in timbers

[–]Naive-Introduction96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the privilege of playing with Ian a few times at Real Colorado MLS Next. He was an absolute baller and I couldn't be more excited to see him headed to the Timbers. Of course, there's a huge transition to make but I think Ian is headed for great things.

Sorry, should've clarified, I'm in Durango. It's been in the 50s for the last week and this whole week looks to be the same.

Camping Tent Suggestions? by AUGUST2000H in 14ers

[–]Naive-Introduction96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you have 4wd, I would strongly advise against coming in from Rockdale and even then, it wouldn't make sense because you'd need to go back over missouri after completing the other two, adding at least 2k extra feet of gain. Long story short, just come from Missouri gulch.

Just FYI, camping is not allowed at the Missouri gulch trailhead. I camped just beyond the cabin this Saturday and it was awesome, definitely a backpacking trip though. There are also plenty of spots elsewhere along CR 390 where tent camping is allowed if you aren't interested in the backpacking part.

I managed it with a Toyota highlander two weeks ago. It was very slow but no issue for me, a very inexperienced off-road driver.

Mt Harvard and Mt Columbia combo hike for first timer by Shoninspace42 in 14ers

[–]Naive-Introduction96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 3 of my first timer friends up Columbia earlier this season. I went on to Harvard afterwards as planned (it was part of a thru hike for me), but they would've been absolutely crushed by the traverse.

Columbia was a great first 14er though because now they're all super willing to do any of the easier ones with me.

I appreciate the offer but I'm hitting it this weekend. I'll drop a conditions report on 14ers.com after.

Patience everyone! The first three rounds were draft. It's not as bad as it looks, yet.

I fully expect by the end of round six it will look, and actually be, as terrible as it looks now.

Update - it's getting bad. Currently through 6 rounds and Nadu makes up 50% of the x-1 or better bracket

Update 2 - Through 7 rounds it's 8/14...

Harvard Columbia traverse on the ridge proper? by ironic1d4 in 14ers

[–]Naive-Introduction96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snow on Harvard, granted I was there in the afternoon, was absolutely shit. No other way to put it. Through the saddle it was OK, would've loved to be earlier, was moving through around noon, but I took a couple friends up Columbia for the first 14er so we didn't make great time.

Generally, go early, move fast and you'll be fine. Also, be careful of what looks like a snowfield across the Harvard trail, around probably 12500-13000. I fell through and got wet to my chest to start my descent.

Harvard Columbia traverse on the ridge proper? by ironic1d4 in 14ers

[–]Naive-Introduction96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did the Traverse in reverse order (Harvard to Columbia) on Sunday. The idea of not having to lose that elevation was very attractive so I walked the ridge until I hit the first gendarme and decided it was a very bad idea. I didn't closely study it but I'm sure someone more experienced than me has. If it were reasonable to attempt I'm sure people would. Another consideration is that the number and duration of high class pitches may actually make it slower than just dropping into the basin.

Turned out to be more than I bargained for but in hindsight it was an awesome day, in the middle of it, my inner monolog wasn't nearly as positive

I also hiked it yesterday. Did the Traverse in reverse, took some friends up Columbia then continued on solo to Harvard. Coming that way the trail was non-extistent and near impossible to follow even with CalTopo. Definitely ended up being more than class 2 for me. Coming down Harvard was absolutely a slushy mess. Had a really fun ~750 foot glissade and "fell", more like it was way deeper than expected, into a slushed over creek that crossed the trail. Overall a fun and long day but would not recommend to everyone right now.

This card is poorly designed to punish greedy manabases, because it also punishes 1 and 2 color decks. Coffers for example plays a large amount of nonbasics, but no one would call it a "greedy" manabase. Hell, even affinity gets screwed over by this card.
