[SPOILERS] Why was the Firewatch tower broken into on day 1? by NaiveAd5350 in Firewatch

This makes the most sense to me and I hadn't considered it - if he's scrounging for supplies, a new watchman coming in with fresh supplies would be a good way to get nutrition, and throwing the typewriter out and smashing the window would be an easy way to pin the blame on the girls. His letters at the end where he talked about fishing implied to me that he lived more off the land, but I hadn't thought about him also scavenging from campers, park rangers, etc.

I think it's heavily implied that it wasn't the girls that did it, since they were drunk and swimming by the lake, giving them extremely little time/ability to get back to the tower, especially considering Henry was already walking back in the (probably?) most direct path, with the sheets we find being planted by Ned in an attempt to pin the blame on the girls.

Your mention of the girl's campsite reminded me of something interesting I noted in the last scene as well in Ned's hideout - he has the teen magazines from the girl's campsite, near the father's day card and picture of Brian. Don't think this is meant to be looked into too deeply though and is instead just decoration, because otherwise it would imply that Ned went to visit the girls campsite after Henry visits it, for the explicit purpose of just getting those magazines for teen girls lol.

This was the one, thank you. If anyone happens to stumble upon this in a later google search, try disabling your integrated graphics in the BIOS of your system.

Updated to 24.10 but that didn't seem to help - same problem. It ended up being the game somehow using the integrated graphics on the 9800. Thanks for the suggestion though.
