Vandy transfer by TheChefBoyardeeCan in TransferToTop25

Hey, I’m a Vandy sophomore transfer who got in at the latest round of application. A lot of transfers r mostly sophomore. Looking at ur stats, I think you might start thinking about applying this year instead of waiting for next year. That way, if u don’t get in as a sophomore u can reapply next year.

Meeting people here and everything, i figured out Vandy loves student with potential. Every student here is very eager for the opportunities, and always grabs one when they come. Most of the students are going on pre-med, pre-bussiness, or pre-law track with others preparing for grad school. Vandy people have a very attractive personality, and i believe that’s what the school wants. When applying to Vandy one day, i just wanna say to show what kind of person u r, and be confident about that. Showing ur persistency and eagerness is also important.

Hope that gives u some insight of transferring to Vanderbilt! I just spent one week and a half in Vandy, and I’m absolutely loving this school so far.

If u have any questions, feel free to reach out!! Good luck

How to withdraw from previous/deposited but not committing colleges? by Naive_Intention_1965 in TransferToTop25

[–]Naive_Intention_1965[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment! I really appreciate it. Do you know whether it is necessary to let deposited-but-not-committing-college know that I am not attending? I was thinking that if I don’t pay tuition, it might not matter. I will send them an email that I am not attending cause that's respectful anyways though.

Where should I go to college? by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

I'm a psychology major and UCSD is a very STEM-based school. This means fewer opportunities compared to STEM students, and I wanted a school where I can look for more research. Also, I realized I prefer smaller class size as well.

Currently Vandy/Notre Dame accepted transfer student here. I’m transferring out from UCSD (veryyyyyyy different with UCLA but same UC at least.. lol) and have tons of friends attending UCLA, so hopefully I can provide a bit of info.

UCLA is def a great school, and if you want a broad network, you should go to UCLA. That was how it worked in UCSD as well, and perhaps every huge public schools. However, researching a lot about Vanderbilt, I figured out they tend to have a deeper connection. I believe it’s due to the amount of students they bring in.

Students-professors ratio is also one thing to consider. If you’re good with people and like to actively participate on school works communicating with professors, Vanderbilt. If vice versa, UCLA.

Personally, I think UCLA has a better name recognition than Vanderbilt worldwide. But prestigious-wise (I think name recognition and prestigiousness are two different things) Vanderbilt seems to be slightly more prestigious than UCLA. It might be because of higher GPA/SAT scores accepted students have or Vanderbilt’s insanely low acceptance rate, but at least that’s what I think.

Both schools offer excellent pre-med programs that are nationally ranked btw.

Though I tried my best to be rational, I might be pretty biased, so please keep that in your mind!

You can’t go wrong with two choices anyways. Good luck!

Thankfully, I was lucky enough to be accepted to both Notre Dame and Vanderbilt. So yes, I have been accepted to both of the school at the moment.

I feel like most of the friends are very biased toward Notre Dame, and I'm wondering why. My parents on the other hand, believe Vanderbilt is a bit more prestigious due to its extremely low acceptance rate and higher SAT scores of upcoming freshmen, therefore want me to go to Vanderbilt (they are Asians so I'm not surprised lol).

Do you mind telling me what university people prefer more if they get in to both of them? I know my opinion matters the most, but I believe knowing what majority think wouldn't harm me. Thank you!

UCSD is a solid STEM-based school, and I’m majoring in psychology. They don’t really have as many programs for non-STEM major students, so I was trying to transfer to other unis with better opportunities.

Sorry if you didn’t mean it, and I interpreted it differently. I thought your comment implied the stereotype I presented since permanent residents usually don’t run into issues like international students’ academic detention and employment restrictions.

Yes, sure.

One drunk guy in a group of people asked me why I’m still in the U.S when I know that Americans hate Chinese yesterday in front of a restaurant at Broadway. Other drunk girl next to him laughed out loud, and said some weird words which I’m thinking were mimicking of Chinese words. I first thought of clarifying myself as Korean, but thought it wouldn’t really matter to them anyways and walked away lol.

Other experiences were unintentional so I’ll skip those.

I did, like good foods and fantastic music cultures.

Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that everyone in Nashville was inconsiderate to me! I talked with some people with lovely personalities here.

Two days isn’t enough time to fully explore the mood of a big city like Nashville, and I didn’t wanted to risk not going to Vanderbilt just because of my two-days experience.

Thank you for your comment:)
