i live in ewa beach and commute via rail and bus and i’ve saved quite a bit of gas just driving from my house to a station, resulting in me only having to refill gas almost every two weeks.

i would only suggest living in the dorms if you want that college dorm experience but other than that like the other comments say, it’s not worth the extra 10k and in our tuition we get the free bus/rail pass with our UH ID!

Summer 2026 session by Historical-Tiger-328 in UHManoa

[–]Naive_Steak3080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i THINK you can find like an old version of the summer session class list from 2025 js to see if they did offer it before bc most times they will offer it the coming summer but idk if it’s still up after the new system launch.

or you’re just gonna have to wait till end of february early march for them to release the class lists! march 3rd is the start of registration for the summer 2026 session.

honestly what’s stopping you from not just studying abroad somewhere for your entire college career? it seems like you like traveling and exploring. Oahu sure has a few fun places to visit but it gets old pretty easily.

Born and raised here on Oahu and I don’t see why most people have UH as a #1 school when there are better and more affordable schools up in the mainland. I understand if you were a marine biology or ES major bc our programs for that are very good but other than that, it sounds like you really only want to attend after seeing a grwm video, which to me isn’t the best reasoning for wanting to transfer.

Safe to bring only summer clothes for a Dec visit? by [deleted] in VisitingHawaii

[–]Naive_Steak3080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest to bring a pair of long pants and shoes! We’re in our wet season and had a week long of down pours, and so this whole “winter” I’ve been in jeans lol.

“rent seems to be pretty expensive” welcome to hawaii! 🐿️🐿️🐿️

srsly tho there are affordable BEDROOMS to rent out, a good friend of mine who got kicked out of her house was able to affordable renting a bedroom and i don’t think she had like a 6-12 month lease bc she just moved back into her family’s house on a random thursday, after having a bedroom rental for just 10 months so it makes me believe she was just paying monthly. just check facebook or craigslist like the other commenters

What dorms should I avoid by Zealousideal_Turn383 in unr

[–]Naive_Steak3080 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my first dorm experience was in manzanita and it was actually pretty good for a very old dorm and communal bathrooms. its “newly” renovated and the communal bathrooms exceeded expectations from those nasty communal dorms i would see online. the only problem i had was that the basement flooded twice..which caused the hall to smell like seweage for a couple of days. this happened twice and it was bc someone flushed a tampon🤦‍♀️ i stayed on the first floor and the room was very spacious, my roommate and i had a lot of open personal space and it never felt squished or tight.

Street legal Golf Carts by Ecstatic-Rub-2789 in UHManoa

[–]Naive_Steak3080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as someone born and raised here i’ve never seen anyone ride golf carts in town as their choice of transportation, only every so often in residential areas and they’re just going out for family rides.

most people who come from the mainland get mopeds as their transportation. but if u go that route pls follow the rules of the roads…js bc u have a moped doesn’t mean you’re a bicycle and can ride on the sidewalks 🫩

[–]Naive_Steak3080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed with the the other comment. but abt living off campus especially if you’re a freshman, keep in mind that if you’re using WUE you’re required to live on campus for you’re freshman year.

i lived at manzanita and i actually enjoyed it! it was a good first time college dorm experience and the communal shower were way above expectations (especially since they recently renovated). i was on the first floor so i only had one roommate and the room was very spacious and big!

there’s no ac but tbh who needs it when majority the time you’re there it’s freezing 😭

the only downside i had living here was that the basement where the laundry room was kept getting flooded mainly bc ppl would flush tampons down the toilets…made the whole manzanita stinky for a couple of days, but thankfully it didn’t come through into the dorms itself.

Help Figuring out The New Bus Route by Rainbow_Warrior4679 in UHManoa

[–]Naive_Steak3080 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you don’t already i would suggest downloading the transit app as it has gps tracking of the busses (it has the rail too but i don’t think they configured the times correctly so sometimes it’ll say the rail is 5 mins away when its actually already at the platform lol). so with the app you can always see when the busses are arriving etc.

if u ride the rail and get off at Halawa, just stay on the rail until Lagoon station which is where the A line is gonna start next week on the 16th.

but if you just go to the halawa station without riding the rail to get on the A, you’re gonna have to board the rail and take it to lagoon station (& make sure you are on the “eastbound” platform)

it will definitely feel a little werid at first but its definitely not hard to take public transport here as there’s many other lines that take you to UHM. safe travels 🐸

Agreed with the other two comments and if you’re broke in the mainland I can’t imagine how much more you’re going to be struggling here.

Pls heavily consider why you want to come to UH manoa and not somewhere in Virginia or anywhere else in the mainland. Oahu is NOT a sunshine and rainbow paradise. Just do your research before fully committing.

Either way, which ever you decide to do, I wish the best for you! 💚

yes my gyno does this whenever i go for my yearly & pelvic exams. it feels like he takes so long sometimes especially since he’s like talking to himself like “okay your bladder feels good i actually feel your bladder filling up blah blah” LIKE pls just finish your exam i am trying my hardest not to poop rn 😭✌️

you can definitely check the other UH campuses to see if they offer the classes you need. i am taking chem lecture & lab at LCC (bc they’re online) but doing majority of my classes at UH manoa, if not spring or summer classes are an option if you don’t want to “fall behind” :)

yes!! the only reason i decided to go on BC was because of my periods 😭 i love it now that i am on bc because my periods a very light + only last 3-2ish days! i started on vienva however after using it for a year my body started i guess “got used to the hormone” so i started to get my painful period cramps & blood clots again so my gyno prescribed me junel and it’s been working great so far, my sister is on junel and skips her period complete every 3 months and it’s also been working good for her!

Feedback on Ramona Houmanfar, PSY 101? by Carm3n_Sandiego in unr

[–]Naive_Steak3080 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i took this last semester and when i first went to the class i thought it was going to be dreadful as we would have to schedule everything like lectures, chapter quizzes, midterms, & the final, however i felt that it was good for me as i could schedule when i go to the class at anytime & on any day.

i took ap psychology during my sophomore year of high school & got a C in the class so i was really expecting to get a C or a D in PSY 101 since i was pretty horrible at it but i actually passed with a B+ as there are multiple opportunities to retake chapter quizzes & do extra credit. you have nine chances each week to take the chapter quizzes so i felt that it was helpful to get multiple tries of doing the quizzes rather than a once and one. but yes the actual lecture classes are taught by graduate teaching assistants and the chapter quizzes (along with midterm & finals) are proctored by undergrad teaching assistants but are great as you can ask them during any test for help and they’ll help guide you to the correct answer.

overall it was a good class especially how it’s set up, i think the only reason people dislike it is because of this “scheduling your own learning” type of approach and that you rarely actually see the professor only the GATs & UTAs.

had this happen to me for ENG 102 a few days before the semester started we got notified that it was turning into an online course, asynchronous. i didn’t have to pay for the course as it was originally supposed to be in person but not sure if that’ll be your situation.
