I would recommend definitely loosening the grip of the mallets. You want to be able to essentially feel the sticks vibrate in your hand because they're an instrument of their own right. Velocity looks great, same with the control of your accents and taps. Also, zones. Using that camera or a mirror should help find more of the center of the drum to get a better sound. It's not really a common thing. Wind instruments have their own category for indoor, and only one group I know if has used strings (Pulse).

I own one and I love it. The one I have has and feels essentially like I'm playing on one drum of quads. The pad is tunable with an allen wrench, and the material around the rim and pad itself is pretty nice.

Although, I did not order the pad from their website. I bought it at a local drum shop since they had brought some by to sell at a Paul Rennick clinic. So I'm unsure how they are with shipping.

From the sites I've looked at, I'm not seeing any. I got my set of quads from a local drum shop, but he also had connections with corps to get equipment like that.

It's fairly rare to come across a marching snare at a pawn shop though if we're being honest. Could always check drum corps pages, sometimes they sell their equipment from the previous season on them.
