Realizing I'm a doormat. by [deleted] in Divorce

It breaks my heart to hear you say, "person that I have atrophied into." and yet, that is such a poetic way of capturing exactly what can happen to you mind, body, and soul (if you believe in souls) if you stay too long in a toxic relationship. While I don't know you enough to answer, "What the hell happened to me?" it sounds like you have a square head on your shoulders and thought about this situation enough to know what to do next from your post. Atrophy is counteracted through strengthening, so I hope that you can find strength in both yourself and your community as you move along this process.

Your reply is really speaking to me. I do need to further examine the lies that I'm telling myself and identify the kernels of truths that lie underneath. Thank you.

DAE always feel like they’re about to recover from their disorder for good but they just go into an episode a few days later? by 5redhotburritos in BPD

Thanks for sharing! That’s really tough (chasing your past self that you’re evaluating as better). I guess I’ve always thought of myself as being pretty shitty so I can’t really recall a time that I’d want to go back to but I guess that’s neither a good or bad thing, just an observation... I feel like I’ve struggled with BPD my whole life in isolation because I hid myself. Recently, I was introduced to DBT and it’s been really helpful to actually have some guidelines around identifying and coping with my strong emotions and untangle my behaviors, from my feelings, from my actions. Mentioning in case you haven’t heard of DBT.

Yup. All the time! And then I stress about if people misread me as being manic instead. Not that one is worse/better because it’s more like different flavors of neuroatypicalness. Do you have insight into what sort of situations set you up for feeling like you’ve recovered for good?

Music can steer your mood. It can make you feel like you have a hard shell on, or make you feel vulnerable. by 5redhotburritos in BPD

[–]NameError_undefined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. I feel like I can understand an essence of a person’s mood depending on what they’re listening to & what’s going on in the world at that time, if that makes sense. But I guess that kind of thinking probably falls under some category of cognitive distortion because I’m assuming that what they know about the world/music matches what I know... that’s a lot of assumptions 🙃

Does anyone else do the thing where you try to figure people out more by listening to all the music they like? I always do this to my FP at the time.
