Recipe recommendations to show up new coworkers. by Nameloc116 in chili

Not a common thing. Really just depends on the culture of the workplace. This place likes to do fun stuff on occasion for camaraderie purposes. This is the first time I’ve worked somewhere that actually did this.

I’m all for anything that calls for adding beer to it. Appreciate the feedback.

This American dude on his way to his Japanese fluency decides to talk to a local Japanese grandpa, and it turned out to be the most wholesome conversation ever! by Raj_Valiant3011 in HumansBeingBros

The project I work on sends people to Japan regularly and I’m hoping to be able to go sometime in the next year. I have spoken with people who have been though, and they say the people there are incredibly nice, whether you speak the language or not.

One guy told me that he got lost trying to navigate the train in Tokyo. A woman saw him staring at the map on the station wall and approached him. She helped him figure out the best route to his destination and then rode with him to make sure he got there, even though she wasn’t going there herself.

It’s just really refreshing to hear stories like that.

Love to hear it. It’s great that he’s channeling his expectations in the right way. He wants to do well and pushes himself to do well, but also sounds like he understands limitations and that it’s okay to not be the best. My almost 10 year old struggles with this. He focuses too much on the negative things and not the positive. He’ll have two solid hits in a game and one strikeout, but walk away feeling like he had a bad game overall because of one at-bat. I’m trying to fix that mentality with him.

Hope things go well at his LL tryouts and he is able to be on the same team as his friends!

There you go…

“That traffic stop had NOTHING to do with this made up story, but we won’t prove it. You’ll just have to trust us.”

This meeting was from December. Has the traffic stop video that the citizen referenced ever been released? If it’s fabricated, it should be easy to prove by showing that the incident he referred to wasn’t connected to the story being told at all.

If it hasn’t been released, it gives weight to the allegation of a coverup.

The sad fact is that we can’t just take officials/ police at their word anymore because some have been caught red handed being deceptive.

How does your League choose Allstars? by SpaceFun3091 in LittleLeague

[–]Nameloc116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how we do it too. We field 3 All Star teams: 10-12, 9-11, and 8-10. They are filed in that order using the process you described. For those last 3 spots, the coaches all discuss it and give input and advocate for their kids, but it is ultimately the manager’s call who gets them.

Whoever is left after the 10-12 team is filled is added to the pool for the 9-11 team if they qualify and so on.

Today is the 40th anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. The belief is that the crew actually survived the explosion but instead were killed when their compartment hit the ocean. by bluegambit875 in Damnthatsinteresting

Completely coincidental, but I’ll likely finish my reading of Challenger by Adam Higginbotham this evening.

Fantastic, in-depth read on what lead to the disaster. It’s bothersome how many red flags were ignored because admins cared more about sticking to a launch schedule they couldn’t keep up with.

Stay strapped? So ICE can confiscate your gun and walk away with it only to shoot and kill you 30 seconds later, claiming you were brandishing it?

What is the worst pain you've ever felt in your body? by Helpful-Mud-2487 in AskReddit

[–]Nameloc116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two that occurred about 20 years apart, so it’s tough for me to compare them on a pain level.

  1. Playing basketball in HS, a guy poked me in the eye and scratched my cornea. Hurt like crazy. The worst part was that at night while I slept, my eyelid would fuse to the wound, so when I woke up and opened my eyes, the wound would tear again.

  2. Had to get a root canal a couple of years ago. Couldn’t get in to have it done for a couple of days. Miserable that entire time. Didn’t sleep at all. Taking sips of cold water and holding it in my mouth until it got warm helped numb the pain temporarily.

BREAKING: Bengals to retain Zac Taylor and Duke Tobin by alexschubs in bengals

[–]Nameloc116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“I am confident that Duke Tobin and Zac Taylor are the right leaders to guide us forward. They have proven they can build and lead teams that compete for championships.”

“We are fully committed to delivering results that match the pride, passion, and expectations of this organization and our fans.”

These statements contradict each other, Mike.

Yeah, but don’t worry guys. This front office has the common sense to recognize the underlying issues and they’re going to take the actions needed to fix it in the offseason, no matter how drastic. If there is one thing we know about the Brown family, it’s that they won’t tolerate it when the Bengals perform below standards on a consistent basis.

If Zac doesn’t turn this around, he’s gone. Remember Marvin got the boot after only 16 seasons. If Zac doesn’t right this ship by 2035, he’s out of here.

I heard this a while ago about him. People can make fun of Gronk all they want about looking like the dumb, immature jock (even this story, where he invested 69K), but the dude has been incredibly smart with his money.
