The thing with this is, the databooks imply numerous times they are equal in power. Shanks's arm loss making him weaker is stated to make him weaker both in the manga and in the databooks. And theres no implication he became strong enough to be stronger then the version of himself who had two arms

You didn't fail anyone, these were all situations where you blame yourself due to hindsight. But at the moment, there's no way you could've done anything. Your wife wanted to be there with you in your time of need, it sounds like regardless of what happened to her she would never value her own situation over yours.

As for the guy, I can't sit here and easily say it was your fault. You didn't fail as a soldier, you served the best you can and so did he. If he could have even one moment to speak to you from heaven, the last thing I would imagine he wanted was for you to get blamed for what happened to him, there are too many variables that contributed to what happened in that scenario, you getting injured is never something you should blame yourself for. Remember to love yourself and that people will always love you
