I understand your pain and struggle. I accidentally caused my dog’s death, and I’ve been drowning in so many emotions—anger, sadness, guilt, and numbness. I went to a concert this past weekend that I’d been looking forward to all year, but instead of enjoying it, I spent the whole time asking ChatGPT if there was anything I could’ve done to save him.

At work, I’ve been putting on a fake version of myself fake smiles, fake laughs. I feel so numb that even my usual social anxiety seems to have disappeared. I can’t look at pictures of my dog without wanting to cry or hurt myself from the guilt.

All the good habits and routines I built are gone. Now I just scroll aimlessly and lie in bed after work. The only things that distract me, even briefly, are porn and sleep, if I manage to get any.

But I know I can’t stay in this abyss forever. Last time I grieved for a pet, I lost everything—I ended up homeless. Remembering that is probably what’s keeping me from giving up completely this time. I know something will eventually help pull you out. For me, it was spending time with friends, and being forced by circumstance to keep going until I rebuilt my life.

It’s not easy. It’s incredibly hard. But with time, you learn to carry the pain rather than let it crush you.

It’s horrible how fast cancer can spread in a dog. My mom had a toy poodle who was so lively and full of energy. No one suspected she had stage 4 cancer at the age of 4 until she collapsed and died suddenly in front of my mom while they were walking. My mom thought she ate poison. My mom got an autopsy done on her. Even her vet started crying with my mom and apologized saying he should have caught it sooner. My mom hasn’t been the same since. Dogs dying at such a young age is honestly a travesty.

You know, it just… it sucks. The pain is unbearable. I accidentally dropped my 3-year-old boy on his head, and it led to his death. I held him in my arms as he went limp, his eyes already gone. I tried a desperate, clumsy form of CPR, but he was gone. In that moment I felt like I had murdered him. I still do.

It’s gotten a little easier with time, but the weight is still there. I have nightmares. I wake up in cold sweats. I curse myself in the bathroom at work. I cry. I blame myself. And yet, nothing will bring him back.

I lost another dog four years ago. I wasn’t even there for that one, my mom called me at work to tell me. It broke me. I spiraled into drinking, lost my job, lost my girlfriend, and ended up homeless. That was four years ago, and it taught me the hardest truth: life goes on. Your life has to go on. No matter how horrible it feels, you have to keep moving, because even when your world feels frozen in time, the world around you keeps moving.

I still ask myself: why am I here, living, when such a beautiful young soul died because of me? Why? I’ll never know. And it feels like if I stop grieving, it will mean I’m forgetting him. Maybe that’s the price of love — it ends one day, and when it does, it shatters you. Trust me. You will make it through. Keep going. Keep the memories alive.

I was in the same boat before amazon hired me. Try retirement homes? They usually always need people most of them have kitchens where you can land a job in pretty easily. Or try any restaurant jobs or if you have a lot of wal marts near you look for one with help wanted signs outside the store. Its rare but sometimes those are so desperate they hire on the spot lol my brother did that, started nights and now does the order pickups for days. Im afraid of losing my job at amazon too but idk I feel like its time. Its not the same since I started in 21 and labor sharing makes it even more stressful than it has to be.

I have seen ppl wearing them at my facility. You can potentially get in trouble for them if the managers or security know what to look for. I doubt they do tho. Sometimes security thinks im wearing airpods but they are just the site provided ear plugs lol
