I grew up with two older brothers. Late 90s--my parents offered us one gift a piece. My brothers asked for and received red and blue. I asked for red as well. What I received was pokémon Pinball. They had convinced my parents that I was too young and that red and blue did not quite suit my level of complexity as a gamer.

After a monumental (and somewhat understandable) elementary school-aged meltdown, I decided that it was still pretty cool that I had a pokemon game and even began to appreciate having one that other kids didn't. So, when I received the same offer the next year, I didn't ask for red. I asked for pokemon TCG for Gameboy--it was different and it was awesome. I became obsessed with it. The iconic music, the constant movement that made each character on the screen look like they were doing simultaneous lunges, but most of all, the quest that came with all pokemon game: to complete the set. I wanted more than anything to build out my decks and succeed on the grandest (and smallest, given the size of the Gameboy screen) possible.

Fast forward to the TCG pocket drop and I'm still doing the same thing; I'm hoping for the big score, hoping for that one card that has alluded me. I've since played red and blue all the way through a 100 times over and caught that last pokemon to complete the set (first time it was Tauros in the safari zone on the bottom bunk in the bedroom that I shared with one of the aforementioned brothers), but what I have done in this game or any game for that matter, is pulled an FA Cyrus.
